Inspection Technician (Space Project)/ Southampton/ Initial 6 Month Contractor/ £23LTD Per Hour

My client is a well respected engineering organisation who is currently experiencing an ongoing period of growth and success. The role is based in Southampton, Hampshire and i spaying a rate of £23LTD Per Hour. The initial duration is 6 months. Please find the role description below:

Main Purpose of the Job

To carry out Space product inspection activities and assist with inspection duties on other Infra Red detectors.

Main Duties

*Generate inspection processes and define SAP inspection plans, for all inspection requirements, ensuring quality standards are maintained, with a view to transfer to Line or remove inspection requirement, where appropriate.
*Inspection support for new product introduction and all development build inspection requirements
*Influence cross functional teams to improve quality of product through generation and analysis of data.
*Train manufacturing assistants in inspection processes being transferred to Line Inspection and support this activity with regular Audits
*Proactively contribute to process improvement and facilitate continuous improvement within the inspection function
*Operate contact and non-contact optical inspection equipment, jigs, tools inspect all aspects of infrared detectors
*Complete tasks, either written or verbal, with minimal supervision.

Key Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

*SC Cleared
*Understanding of clean room protocols - contamination risks / control / cleanliness / ESD requirements / precautions
*Relevant and demonstrable experience / technical proficiency of the use of standard hand metrology equipment / and the programming of contact & non contact CMM's / OGP optical metrology systems.
*Fully conversant with engineering drawings prepared to ISO Standards.
*Familiar with Space industry inspection standards - ECSS / MIL requirements.
*Experience with handling sensitive space hardware.
*Demonstrate the ability to set and check / program inspection equipment.
*Capable of consistently producing repeatable, high accuracy output.
*Ability to following work instructions and generate written inspection reports both for internal records, and to a standard appropriate for customer review. (e.g. AS9102 FAIR)
*Able to work and communicate effectively in a team.
*Ability to assess, review and understand complicated requirements with a minimum of documentation and to develop well documented processes.
*Able to work with minimal supervision and take responsibility for targets set by supervisory staff on a weekly or monthly basis.
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of the business.
*Able to assess a working environment and assist in process improvement
*Experience in communicating with Engineers and cross - functional teams both written and verbally.
*Familiar with 5S methodologies.
*Maintain safe working practices within the work area at all times in accordance with internal procedures and current health and safety legislation.
*Flexible approach to working hours. (Outside of normal office working hours) to support management in the efficient use of resources by being flexible in their approach to work and hours of work including overtime.
*Computer Literate - Basic understanding of MS Office Applications - Outlook, Word, Excel, data input etc.

Desirable:

*Apprentice trained
*Customer facing experience
*Experience with IR detector or vacuum technology
*Proficient in the use of PCDMIS software
*Proficient in the use of SAP
*Familiarity with optical / electrical acceptance standards (MIL-C-48457) / IPC 610 etc
*ESA Standard Solder Inspection Certificated
