Network Engineer - West London Event IT Specialists £25,000 - £35,000 Main purpose of Role: To support, maintain and fine tune the show network providing flawless delivery and bespoke adaptation according to the event requirements. To assist in the provision and maintenance of the corporate network services to the business as required. Key Responsibilities - Build network structure for various shows and events at Olympia and provide support during the tenancy of such (weekend cover is required regularly). - Resolve incidents and problems logged via the IT Service Desk and Fresh desk within service level timeframes. - Make changes to the network via compliance to the network change control policies. - Assist in constantly reviewing the network integrity and making suggestions and improvements including LANs, WANs, Internet, security, wireless implementations. - Maintain up to date and detailed documentation of the network as directed by the IT Operations Manager. - Maintain all security systems and their corresponding or associated software, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems - Assist in the enforcement of policies, procedures and associated plans for system security administration and user system access based on industry-standard best practices. - Monitor and analyse network performance across the organization's LANs, WANs and wireless deployments. Planning and Organisation The Junior Network Consultant is expected to be able to plan and organise his or her workload examples of how this is achieved are shown below. - Collecting all information and building show networks in a timely manner. - Being able to effectively monitor and plan for increases network traffic during peak times. - Assessing and planning knock on effects of any maintenance work assigned. Problem Solving and decision making This position demands that a variety of problems are quickly and effectively acted upon. These include but are in no way limited to the below: - Troubleshooting failed connectivity. - Contacting the relevant parties as laid out in any emergency procedures. - Making the appropriate decision to quickly reconnect the service. - Being able to identify and react to emergency situations that require immediate attention and then reporting on such to the relevant parties. - Providing innovative solutions to customers who order late internet connections on shows. Key Contacts / Relationships This position requires that key contacts and relationships are maintained beyond those of immediate colleagues within the IT Services department. Customer relationships need to be managed to ensure positive user feedback. Knowledge, skills and experience This position required a good understanding of the following: - CISCO switches, routers and hubs, firewalls and internet security. Wireless networks. - Network protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, BGP. - Windows servers, desktop and domain management (DNS, DHCP, WINS) - Customer Service - Health and Safety awareness Person Specification - Excellent customer service skills and creative problem solving - Ability to work alone and under pressure - Team player - Flexibility - Punctuality - Ability to work evening and weekend shifts The following contract is applicable to this role: You will work an average of 42 hours per week in accordance with an agreed rota which will include up to two weekends a month. You may be required to work over and above the average 42 hours per week, in which case, you will be provided with time off in lieu on a 1:1 basis, there is no additional payment for overtime.
