Systems Engineer Primary Purpose of the role The Systems Engineering function supports internally-funded (IRAD) projects and customer-funded (CRAD) programmes through providing engineering resource skilled and experienced in the delivery of the full system life-cycle. At present the function is engaged with multiple high-profile surface/sub-service Royal Navy vessels along with supporting the next generation of radar systems. We require a Systems Engineer to support the delivery of In-Service Support to the QEC Aircraft Carrier programme (bridge and navigation lights) and other legacy Royal Navy systems. The Engineer will manage the resolution of all defects arising during the initial years of service of the carriers to ensure the equipment remain operational and meets the needs of the Royal Navy. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to prove their technical leadership ability. The role is expected to grow in scope and provides excellent visibility across the Systems function, wider Engineering department and with the Customer organisations. KEY ACCOUNTABLILTES - Review and respond to S2022 reports ("Report of Shortcomings/Changes in Material, Design Support or Documentation"), liaising with all stakeholders. - Ensure adequate integration with other engineering functions involved in solution delivery (Hardware, Mechanical, Software, ILS, etc.). - Generation and maintenance of in-service support processes for products on Royal Navy surface vessels (integrated bridge systems, gyros, legacy radars). - Generation and maintenance management plans for software, hardware and configuration. - Maintain KPIs and support progress meetings (quarterly). - Ensure all responsibilities are delivered in accordance with Company Standards of Conduct and contractual processes. - Have awareness of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirements Key Relationships TECHNICAL/JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS Required: - Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering / technical subject (e.g. systems engineering, aerospace, electrical engineering or similar) - Experience of working on / leading systems engineering activities on a military programme - Demonstrable knowledge and experience in requirements management - Systems definition, design, integration, acceptance and analysis experience - Ability to lead systems engineering activity and cross-departmental activities - Strong numeracy and problem solving skills. - Strong IT skills, specifically with MS Office products. Desirable/Acquirable: - Knowledgeable of requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS o similar) - Knowledge of marine electronic equipment - Knowledge of marine specific standards (e.g. IEC 60945) - Familiar with military environmental standards (DEF STAN 00-35, 59-411 etc.) Security clearance requirements: - UK national (with no dual nationality) - Security Clearance (SC). To gain (SC) clearance candidate must have been a UK resident for a minimum of 5 years (continuous residency - any visits abroad within that time frame must not have exceeded 6 months.)
