Spring Technology is recruiting an Applications Support Engineer on behalf of our large and highly successful educational organisation.

The role
To support the applications layer of iSolutions offering to the company. Primary aims are to support, maintain and develop the ICT systems such that their availability, resilience and functionality are constantly improved.

Key responsibilities:
*To implement, configure, maintain, document and support applications, hardware and resources, and to undertake pre-emptive maintenance in the area of applications.
*To assist in the continual evaluation of system performance, make recommendations, and implement and document updates and solutions aimed at increasing the resilience, reliability and ultimately the availability of all applications and services.
*To carry out trouble shooting and fault finding, and plan, develop, document and implement solutions to service failures.
*To liaise with suppliers concerning the resolution of reported faults, to adopt vendor updates and products, and to advise iSolutions of vendor roadmaps.
*To participate in the planning for inception and handover of enterprise applications and services into the Production environment.
*To advise the Team Manager of the products, resources and technical processes needed to accept new and maintain existing services in order to meet the agreed operational plan and service levels.
*To advise the team manager on suitable products within the commercial and open source market place to meet identified needs, to identify gaps that the marketplace cannot fill and to offer alternative solutions to a market approach as needed.
*To facilitate the integration of applications with other products and services delivered by iSolutions, and develop, document and implement functional improvements and feature requests.
*Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.

Special Requirements
To maintain the relevant level of professional expertise and qualifications to discharge the duties of a professional specialist and to agree with the team manager on a relevant professional development programme.

There may be a requirement to work varying core hours, or on occasion to work outside normal hours, to ensure that service commitments are met.

Experience in:
*A high level modern programming or scripting language
*Troubleshooting and problem solving
*Developing or supporting web or database applications
*Supporting and configuring Unix or Windows servers
*Web server technology such as IIS, Apache or Tomcat/JSP Container
*Ability to work as part of a team, and to collaborate effectively with other technical specialists in the applications management arena and other areas
*A professional, customer orientated approach to service and a diplomatic approach to all levels of IT users
*Confidence to communicate with all levels of the organisation
*A collaborative and supportive approach to working and dealing with other iSolutions teams
*Confidence to communicate with external suppliers
*Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate knowledge to colleagues
*Ability to thoroughly document all outputs; to review and improve existing documentation
*Ability to identify user training requirements
*Ability to provide clear and concise reporting to senior management and team manager

Familiarity with:
*ITIL standards
*IT security
*Version control software
