Data Centre Team Leader, Legal IT, IT Operations, ITIL, London

Data Centre Team Leader required to work for an exciting Law Firm based in Central London. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management, support and maintenance of elements of the firm’s global IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring that the availability, capacity and continuity targets on those systems are met and that they operate and are maintained in a controlled and consistent way. You will work with other colleagues to ensure that new systems and services are delivered with minimal disruption to the firm. The role reports to the Head of IT Operations with responsibility for day-to-day task management, incidents raised by the IT Service Desk and projects for the team.

Duties & responsibilities

·Maintain and support key infrastructure systems and services, including servers (physical and virtual), NetApp storage solutions, applications, switching, virtual machine environments, backup and restore capabilities and disaster recovery services.

·Provide in-depth expertise in a number of key business application areas – see technical section below.

·Provide 3rd line support to the Service Desk for our full software portfolio, liaising with 3rd party support vendors when necessary to provide a root cause fix.

·Participate in an out-of-hours on-call system with other members of the team on a rota basis for technical escalations.

·Progress all calls in a timely fashion, keeping the end users up-to-date at all times.

·Take ownership of incidents, and identify and address problem trends.

·Produce monthly capacity metrics for global storage systems.

·Responsible for the firm's backups, ensuring any issues are highlighted and resolved. Formulate and conduct monthly restore tests for the global team.

·Responsible for creating, testing and deploying software packages to a global user base.

·Assess upgrades and alternative technologies for the firm's software, systems and infrastructure where necessary.

·Where practical, assume responsibility for the inception, management and execution of projects to improve and maintain the firm’s infrastructure.

·Ensure that the firm's IT security policy is respected and enforced.

·Remain abreast of operational technologies, systems and services, and provide thought leadership in designated technology areas.

·Assist with maintaining key vendor relationships and tendering for new suppliers when necessary.

·Continually look to improve own skills and those of team members.

·Conducting appraisals, setting objectives and mentoring staff.

·Produce, update and maintain system documentation for the firm's applications and systems.

·Work closely with all members of the IT department to provide a complete and cohesive IT service to our customers.

·Ensure all relevant administration is completed on time and to a high standard.

·Any other ad hoc duties as and when required.

The Person

·Business Skills: Must be an excellent communicator with real understanding and empathy for the customer, ensuring that any planned work takes into account the impact for them and the business.

·Technical skills: In-depth IT skills are vital to the role. An ability to understand and explain IT solutions and issues to a non-technical audience is critical. A strong awareness of best practice techniques and solutions within the areas of networking, data centres, security, storage and mobility will be needed.

Key Skills & Experience Required

·Minimum of 4 years' experience in an IT Operations team, managing a complex and global IT environment.

·Strong leadership skills and experience of managing other team members.

·Experience of designing and managing offsite data centres.

·Experience of working in an ITIL operational process environment. Ideally ITIL certified at practitioner level or equivalent.

·Well-developed troubleshooting skills.

·Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

·A good understanding of working with the business to align IT solutions with business needs.

·Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

·Professional manner with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.

·Dedicated and hard-working.

·Flexible with regard to working hours - normal office hours are seven working hours between 8.00am and 6.00pm but change windows are likely to require work outside this time.

Technical Skills

·Expert working knowledge of: NetApp storage systems, Cisco UCS Flexpod environments, VMWare, Commvault.

·Working knowledge with FileSite, WorkSite filling server and Idol indexing server.

·Administrator level exposure to MS Exchange (2007 / 2013), SQL Server, and Cisco call manager are beneficial.

·Experience with configuring and troubleshooting Windows Server 2003/2008/2012.

·Active Directory management eg. user account management, group policy management,

·A well developed understanding of network technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VLANs.
