Job Description

The job involves playing a key role in the flood risk management team, with direct responsibility for delivering work that contributes to the Councils strategy in relation to flooding and water management. Flooding and water management issues include coastal, fluvial and pluvial sources. This work will include but is not restricted to flood risk assessment and mapping, consultation, project management, option scoping and appraisal, design and supervision of schemes and asset management.


Flood risk management related studies, Preparation and delivery of Flood Risk Management Plans, consultation with the stakeholders and the wider public, design, supervision and project management, and maintenance of flood risk management assets.
Ensuring compliance with policies, statutory procedures and other guidance.
Professional and personal development.

The Individual

Experience in design and project management.
Experience of hydrology, hydraulics and water management.
Knowledge of the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.
Experience in producing environmental submissions, e.g. CAR licence.
Awareness of environmental issues.
Degree or demonstrable equivalent in a construction / water management related discipline with a significant element of water management.
Significant progress towards incorporated membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, CIWEM, or similar.
Good language and numeracy skills.
Technical report writing.
Adaptable and resourceful.
Good analytical skills.
Familiar with general-purpose software such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
Ability to develop good relationships and work as part of a team.
Experience of flood risk assessments.
Development and design of flood risk management schemes.
Knowledge of natural processes and catchment management.
Knowledge of GIS.
Knowledge of AutoCAD systems.
Full driving licence
Good communication skills.
Ability to relate to others in the team. Helpfulness to colleagues and customers.
Honesty and reliability.
Ability to work outdoors
