Teaching Assistant job, Cardiff - 1:1 support
A large primary school in Cardiff are currently looking for a Learning Support Assistant to work on a full time and long term basis, to provide 1:1 support for a child with behavioural difficulties. This job is to start immediately and will be until July 2018, to be reviewed for extension in September 2018, based on how well you and the child are progressing.
You will be working in a mainstream classroom to support a child with behavioural difficulties on a 1:1 basis; this will include supporting the child in group situations and encouraging inclusion, and interaction with other pupils and group activities. You will work to support the child to remain on task to achieve expected learning outcomes in line with the activities being done by the whole class, as set out by the class teacher. Though the child does not have an IEP, you will monitor the child's progress, providing feedback on your observations to the class teacher as appropriate. The pupil will be new to the school, so supporting them to settle in and integrate will be extremely important for their progress and development in all aspects.
You will need to build a strong rapport with the child in order to develop an effective working relationship with them, which will aid in effectively manage their behaviour. You will need to apply various behaviour management techniques that cater to and accommodate the child and will need to do this in a non-intrusive way. Experience in supporting children on a 1:1 basis will be essential, as will knowledge and understanding of working in this type of LSA role.
