We are delighted to be representing our client, a medium sized Logistics specialist providing national Freight Forwarding services in their search for an experienced Finance Controller.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for overseeing the day to day accounting & finance teams and to apply sound commercial finance judgement to aid the growth of a small network of distribution centres in a number of ways, both financial and operational.

Essential purpose of the role:

The business is in urgent need of sound financial analysis, budgeting, managing, reporting & influencing. Whilst the wider business performs well, it requires clarity of the overall P&L with results to be reviewed & analysed closely to set budget’s ahead and plan for growth. You will be project managing Capital Expenditure ventures and providing sound analysis and financial recommendations to the board. It is envisaged that this role will then lead to a move upwards on to the board itself so you must be commercially focussed, energetic and ambitious . This really is a hands-on role where you will be visible & communicate with people across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

·Ensure costs & expenditure are reported in an accurate and timely manner.

·Managing a team of 4 including credit control, purchasing & admin.

·Analyse and identify areas of improvement that affect the cost base especially on labour, fuel & other key areas.

·Not be afraid to challenge Senior Managers.

·Being flexible and responsive to the business.

·Communicate with stakeholders at other sites on a regular basis to review costs & budgets.

·Resolves issues with commercial operations

·Works efficiently and calmly tight deadlines

·Oversees financial KPI’s

·Work with SAGE but also help in setting up a new financial system

·Working collaboratively across all areas of the business to provide sound financial advice and analysis to non-financial staff.

The ideal Candidate:

·Logistics / Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Retail or similar background

·Must be hands on & visible

·Strong KPI background

·Experienced in managing Capital Expenditure projects

·Strong commercial awareness

·Strong Negotiator

·Good numeracy skills

·Strong analytical skills

·Excellent IT skills and knowledge of relevant software

·Excellent communication skills

·High attention to detail

This role would suit someone who is used to a great deal of autonomy in either a Commercial Finance Manager’s role or a Financial Controller role.
