The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Media Officer - a key role which acts as the first point of contact for SFRS media enquiries.



We are seeking an experienced media/communications officer used to working in a busy communications office/news room environment, who is a confident communicator and writer; capable of turning around compelling and accurate copy to deadline, often whilst managing competing demands.



Applicants require to be educated to HND level in a communication, media or similar discipline with broadcast welcome, and have extensive experience of working under pressure, prioritising requests appropriately, and taking into account media deadlines.



Excellent communications skills are essential and are required for dealing with the media, stakeholders, the public and SFRS staff to help us answer questions on, and publicise the activities of, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.



Knowledge and experience of different methods of disseminating information to a wide range of audiences including the media e.g. briefings, press conferences, press releases, social media etc., the ability to anticipate the needs of journalists, together with extensive experience or knowledge of supporting staff in relation to handling and communicating with the media is also essential.



In addition, applicants require to demonstrate awareness of media law issues and dealing with matters of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature appropriately and have a good awareness of information management and handling requirements.



There is a requirement to provide out-of-office, on-call support for one full week per month, or as needed, providing support and advice or written statements for media. This on-call role can also include travel at short notice, when directed and applicants require to hold a full UK Driving licence and have a flexible approach.
