Fife Council is committed to increasing the Early Learning and Childcare core entitlement from 600 to 1140 hours per year by 2020.

These apprentice roles are funded through the Scottish Government Investment programme as part of the commitment to the 1140 hours programme.

An apprenticeship is a work-based training programme that leads to an industry approved qualification. The training will be both on and off-the-job, which means apprentices learn the right mix of skills, abilities and knowledge.

You will work under direction from the teacher alongside Early Years Officers supporting children within a nursery environment, supporting the effective learning and teaching environment through inclusive practice.

These apprenticeships are open to anyone of any age or work background.


3 Nat 5s, 3 Standard Grades at 1-3, 3 O'Grades A-C, 3 Intermediate 2's, Core Skills at SCQF level 5, to including English and Maths/Arithmetic.

Previous experience can be considered as equivalent see SCQF Framework

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland

Workers new to role must gain registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within six months of start date in this role and maintain registration throughout the period of employment.


You will work as a member of a team, supporting the delivery of a broad and balanced early year's curriculum within a caring, safe, and welcoming environment, this enables each child to achieve their potential. To contribute to the creation of a positive primary ethos this develops children's self-esteem and personal identity in a climate of trust and praise. To work with parents and carers, and with other agencies, to promote the welfare and development of every child.

As part of this job role the post holder will work towards and gain an SVQ Level 3 in Social Services Children and Young People.

The Individual

You will have an appreciation of the education system and knowledge of the support and tasks undertaken by an Early Years Officer.
