Teacher of Science required for a January 2018 start, Bracknell

Required for January 2018 (preferred), an enthusiastic and effective teacher of science, able to teach biology to GCSE and A level. Applications from experienced teachers and NQTs will be considered.

Results in science are excellent. In 2017, GCSE grades were 83% A*- C for Core Science and 83% A*- C for Additional Science. More able students study separate sciences at GCSE where A*-C pass rates in 2017 were 93% in Biology, 88% in Chemistry and 93% in Physics. Biology, Physics and Chemistry are very popular at Advanced level with at least two sets of students for each of the science disciplines next year and for A Level Biology. Students are well motivated and excited by the science they study - around 50 students per year group opt to study triple science at GCSE. The expansion in student numbers for A Level Biology means we need to appoint a teacher who has confidence and ability at this level.

Ranelagh is an 11-18 coeducational, Anglican Academy (converter) which is oversubscribed and has an excellent reputation for academic achievement and positive school ethos. The school has had four 'outstanding' OFSTED reports, with Grade 1 across all areas, but we are not complacent and as such the provision for professional learning and development is something of which we are all very committed.

This post may be suitable for an experienced or newly qualified teacher. Potential candidates may also wish to know that our admissions policy enables the school to prioritise the admission of children of staff recruited to posts in which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

If you have a very good knowledge and understanding of the subject and you are an excellent teacher looking to develop your career in a supportive and progressive environment, we would welcome an application from you. Opportunities for professional growth are excellent.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All staff employed in the school must be aware that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be undertaken.
