Job ID: R-52487 Full time The Role: Scotland & NI Regional SME team are looking for an Underwriting Manager who will be based in our Perth Office. This role reports directly into the Scotland & NI Head of Trading. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Trading Underwriter's, to develop relationships with local Insurance Brokers and to proactively grow the business and increase revenue and profit. You will need to understand and manage the team's work demand, what matters to our customers and use this knowledge to continuously improve team performance. You will be responsible for managing a team of 10-15 Underwriters who are either home or office based. The Team: The UK SME team is responsible for all commercial customers with a Turnover up to £100 million. We are based across 5 Regional teams; in addition, we have our Digital team who predominantly writes online business. Our purpose as a team is to provide insurance solutions for Commercial customers. We trade the majority of our business through Insurance Brokers. You'll understand that working within our governance frameworks to make sure we're risk compliant as an organisation is fundamental. Responsibilities: - Proactively spend time with your Brokers and team to understand what matters to them, build relationships and increase profitable revenue from new and existing SME customers. - Embed a sales culture of winning business. - Regularly review account and team performance, including 121s and honest performance conversations. - Deliver the financial plans for your team and Region. - Understand the team's performance and look for ways to improve performance across the team. - Have awareness of the wider Regional team performance and how your team contributes to this. Provide support and help when required across Regional teams. - Ensure robust governance and risk requirements are part of business as usual. - Effectively leading a team of people and driving a high performance culture whilst being adaptable to change. - Communicating clearly with the team on strategy and performance & keeping them engaged. - Ensuring wellbeing at work. - Develop and grow your teams capability both technical and skills based. Need to know: - An understanding of Systems thinking Methodology. - Market and Competitor awareness. - Governance and Risk guidelines and procedures. - Product and underwriting knowledge. - Individual Contributions and how this links to UK GI strategy.
