The Faculty of Clinical Informatics (the Faculty) is being established as the professional membership body for all clinical informaticians across the UK to support and nurture both existing and potential future clinical informaticians and to encourage a culture of striving for high quality and standards.

Whilst the Faculty continues to be developed, it is being hosted by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). As such the post is being advertised on a one year fixed term basis, however the intention is that the post will become permanent once the Faculty becomes a legal entity in its own right. The post holder will report to the Assistant Director of Clinical Innovation & Research and will work closely with the Head of Programmes and Projects at the RCGP, who will continue to provide the link between the Faculty and the RCGP.

The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 52,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

The post holder will be responsible for the organisational development of the Faculty, providing full business support to the Board, Founding Fellows and Executive Team and guiding them through the process of gaining charitable status, appointing elected Officers and developing an appropriate governance structure for the Faculty.

The appointee will develop organisational strategy and business plans; produce and implement a communications and stakeholder management strategy; lead on the commissioning and management of specialist projects and act as first point of contact for the Faculty in terms of maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including supporters, sponsors and the media. The post holder will initially line manage one member of staff, another new post, Membership and Communications Officer.

Experience of establishing and leading the operational activity of an organisation is essential, as well as demonstrable experience of financial planning and management, and organisational strategy development.

The successful candidate will be an innovative and highly motivated leader; they will have knowledge of organisational legal structures and gaining charitable status; and will have an understanding of the UK health and care services. An understanding of the clinical informatics profession would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level or have equivalent experience. A business management or organisational development qualification would be desirable.

The role will be based in London but will require some national travel including overnight stays.

The successful candidate will share both the RCGP's and Faculty's corporate values.

In return, the College offers excellent terms and conditions.
