Job Description

Navigating the online job boards for tech roles can be an absolute nightmate.

Whether its badly written job ads or poorly constructed job descriptions, candidates are often battered with alot of irrelevant information and very little useful information... no wonder there is a candidate shortage!

So with that in mind, I wanted to go against the grain and attempt to summarise this role with only the key points I feel are relevant to potential job-seekers such as yourself... any feedback (even if you don't want to apply) would be fantastic.

Here goes...

The Company

They are a Global E-Commerce Provider operating in the online space, providing a service that spans over 150 countries across the world. They have a state-of-the-art platform enabling them to constantly provide their customers with the best possible service and pride themselves on their willingness to embrace technology rather than fear it.

They are on a long journey towards their ultimate goal of being a fully Agile service provider and they need you to help them get to that stage. The question is whether you feel you are up to the challenge?

The Role

The role will be based out of their 'Innovation Centre' in London and will be focused on managing the development of x2 greenfield products based around technologies such as AWS, Java, Spring, Hibernate, ReactJS, HTML5 and Android.

That office isn't actually their main HQ, rather it is their launchpad for any innovative or new development and you will be given the opportunity to build something larger from the ground up. This is an opportunity rarely seen with organisations of this scale and is the chance to put your stamp on something genuinely unique. However, despite their size and relatively large Global footprint, this role will initially feel like a Start-Up due to the relatively small size of the team (x3 Software Engineers) so if you are coming from a small Tech House or Software Consultancy then you might be just the person they are looking for.

You will be expected to be a true technologist and they are fundamentally looking for somebody who is close to the technology - don't worry, you don't need to still be coding to apply to this! This is because the role will involve getting involved in all phases of the Software Lifecycle and wider areas such as Architecture and Code Reviews.

You will be the driving force behind implementing coding standards and industry best practice and will be expected to champion the use of Agile methodologies and wider processes such as BDD, TDD and DevOps. Moreover, you will be involved in the project delivery process so an understanding of the project management toolkit would be equally handy.
