About the role As Information Security Officer you will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and assistance on information security responsibilities, issues and tasks across Jisc, working within Jisc's Information Security Management System (ISMS) and helping to establishing baseline levels of information security practice across Jisc. This will include: - Working to implement and improve security procedures, process and controls - Implementing, maintaining and supporting technical tools and systems used by the Information Security Team - Developing technical solutions for information security issues in other teams - Coordinating the response to security incidents that occur within Jisc - Analysing and reporting on security logs, information, developments, and intelligence - Assessing the security of systems in use at Jisc About you In order to be successful, you will need to demonstrate: - A good working knowledge of information security standards and best practices. - Experience of developing technical solutions to information security problems. - Experience of basic configuration and management of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls). - Recent experience of responding to common security incidents. - Experience of managing and analysing log data, and it's use during information security incidents. - Broad knowledge of information security principles. - A sound understanding of core networking protocols such as IP, DNS, HTTPS. - Familiarity with virtualisation and IaaS environments such as AWS or Azure, and the tools available to secure them. - An understanding of the types of malware most likely to cause harm to Jisc, how they work, and the actions that can be taken to prevent them. - Sound administration skills in at least one of Windows, Linux or OS X, and a working familiarity with one other operating system. - Strong programming skills in Python, PHP, Perl or similar, and an ability to apply those skills to new tasks at short notice. - Ability to process and analyse ad-hoc structured and unstructured data using commonly available tools.
