They are currently searching for a Quality Engineer - Across all new model programmes - Body to join their team on a long term rolling contract basis You will be based within the body engineering team working onsite the production plant in the West Midlands *****Quality Engineer - Across all new model programmes - Body***** Base 40 hours per week with a 3.30 pm finish on all Fridays £25.04 per hour Limited company / umbrella *****Quality Engineer - Across all new model programmes - Body***** Division: Body Engineering Location: Gaydon Position Description: - The Opportunity The PQ & EE group needs to provide maternity cover for 6, potentially 12months. - The PQ & EE group, within Body Engineering, is responsible for delivery of the Perceived Quality across all new model programmes - to ensure the delivery of an end product with leadership levels of Perceived Quality. - The opportunities available to you from working within this group are: To work on, and gain experience of, components and systems across the whole of Body & Trim Engineering with all the various technologies this involves - To work closely with personnel across the business involved with delivery of engineering concepts (from Engineering, Design, Manufacturing) - To lead a team of engineers and designers across a number of functions in the resolution of complex engineering issues, ensuring release of geometry which meets the exacting visual quality targets for our vehicles. - Utilisation of latest visualisation techniques The role provides an ideal opportunity to develop a wider knowledge of Body Engineering components and programme delivery to support career development, whilst allowing the individual to impact directly on the visual quality of our vehicles. - The role would ideally suit an Automotive Project Leader/Manager, or Lead Engineer, who wishes to move into a PQ role. Key Performance Indicators - Ability to self-manage against clear programme objectives - Ability to communicate concisely at Senior and working levels - Ability to creatively lead the resolution of technical issues within a team environment - Ability to interface directly with Engineering, Design and Manufacturing teams. - Ability to interrogate CAD data - using associated visualisation tools Skills Required: KEY SKILLS - Essential: Ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic, forward looking, lateral thinker with proven creative, experience, with strong analytical skills, with high creativity levels and a good understanding of modern and future technologies. - Be able to demonstrate the ability to lead the resolution of technical issues (and associated business cases) within a team environment with the ability to interface directly to the Design teams, Attribute teams, component areas, manufacturing and marketing, plant, company quality, new model programs, advanced manufacturing, and represent the Perceived Quality Department. - Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, self-confident and a 'passion for the product' are personal qualities needed to succeed in this high pressure environment, being self-motivated and able to deliver with minimum supervision. - Knowledge of User assessment process and customer research would be advantageous. - Proven tangible history of working or leading automotive projects will be a distinct advantage. - They should have an understanding of manufacturing process variation / process capability and how to improve this and / or improve the visual impact of this. - They should have the ability to interrogate CAD data - using associated visualisation tools such as Vis Mock-up / Digital Buck. - Experience of program or project management, meeting demanding timescales. - Applicants need to be qualified to degree level and be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint & Word. - The role is likely to require some inter-site travel and therefore it is expected that candidates will hold a valid UK Drivers licence. Skills Preferred: Desirable: - It is preferable, but not essential, that the candidate also has the following skills and experience: - A knowledge of Body Engineering systems and component design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirements - Experience of plant based assembly and manufacturing problems, including plant product audit Experience Required: - Educated to HNC/HND or Degree Level in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering. - A proven track record of on time and robust delivery of Automotive Programmes / Projects - Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities - Leadership of the Perceived Quality Process to facilitate delivery of a vehicle meeting the required visual quality targets. - Organising and running daily meetings, and working closely with, personnel from Product Development, Quality, Design, Dimensional Variation Analysis, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Vehicle Engineering. - Liaising with above groups to lead the resolution of Perceived Quality issues, giving advice on engineering solutions for improved visual quality. - Working with Product Development engineers, considering detailed engineering including datum & locator strategies, fixing methods, definition of surface materials and ambient Lighting to develop best-in-class solutions - Regular reporting of programme status / progress by issuing written status and by presenting in review forums. - Escalating issues that require senior involvement to resolve or buy-off. - Management and maintenance of Panel Charts (Programme Reporting) for vehicle lines. - Development of target setting for Gap Plans, which can involve vehicle measurement data capture. - Competitor vehicle benchmarking, producing data sheets with detailed vehicle definitions that are part of the Perceived Quality definition and measurement process. - Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time Key Interactions - Lead Engineers DVA / Manufacturing Engineers Design Programme Management Company Quality Senior Engineering & Programme Management - Vehicle Engineering Experience Preferred: - At least 5 years experience as a Project Leader / Manager
