Internal applicants from within the University are encouraged to consider this role as a secondment opportunity. However, after the initial set-up phase, and with satisfactory project set-up and progress, it is envisaged that this position will become sustainable in the longer term.

This post relates specifically to a collaboration between Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Working together, they have designed a higher education programme for MSF personnel called the Leadership Education Academic Partnership (LEAP) in order to deliver an educational Programme that will teach the leading humanitarians of tomorrow. Using a flexible learning approach, the Programme will consist of a portfolio of online and face-to-face taught master's course units in, for example, research methods, the management of change and humanitarian management.

The primary role of the Programme Director is to develop, deliver and direct a bespoke MSc Humanitarian Practice programme for MSF personnel. The teaching material should be informed by field experience and research, and candidates will be expected to have a research agenda that keeps them informed of ongoing developments in the field of humanitarian studies. After the initial set-up phase, and with satisfactory project set-up and progress, it is envisaged that this programme and the position of Programme Director will become sustainable in the longer term.

The Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute has developed a novel configuration for research and teaching which uniquely associates academics, practitioners, non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners, policy makers and analysts in sustained intellectual engagement. We offer a flexible approach to the provision of research and taught programmes so as to cater for the current needs of the aid sector as well as prepare the next generation of crisis response researchers and practitioners.

Please indicate on your application whether you wish to apply for the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the black and minority ethnic (BME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
