MAIN PURPOSE OF THE SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER ROLE: As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, contribute to the development of high-performance, cost effective and reliable systems / components for theproduct range. RESPONSIBILITIES: - - To provide innovative physics, precision mechanics, mathematical analysis, signal processing and control, or other scientific contribution, to the design of group's range of products. - To understand customer requirements including the nature of the customer measurement application and how this relates to the overall instrument system capability. - To develop and take ownership of the system architecture, including defining and optimizing system partitioning and interfaces and understanding the impact of these, and delivering robust system build and test procedures. - To gain an understanding of all aspects of the instrument measurement and control, from introduction of the sample to generation and storage of the result. - To take on the role of lead of a development team, providing team leadership and design direction as appropriate to the size of project. - To ensure the design follows documented NPI process. - To participate in the development of products as part of multi-disciplinary project teams andto work within project timescales, providing progress indication and task estimates asnecessary. - Clear communication with Operations, Service, Purchasing and Marketing to ensureefficient project progress and successful transfer of knowledge. - To lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering groups and technical specialists tosolve product problems as they relate to the operation of the instrument system or thescience of the measurement. - To liaise with suppliers in defining the choice of components with particular emphasis onkey sensors and state of the art technology. - To acquire, maintain and disseminate knowledge of up to date technology and its potentialapplication to Malvern Instruments. - Ensuring that developed products are compliant with relevant regulations SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED OF THE JOB HOLDER: - Graduate Physicist, Mechanical, Mathematician or equivalent. PhD in relevant discipline may be useful. Skills & Experience - Proven commercial experience in a system development environment, with specific experience of measurement instrumentation, including Laser Light Scattering, Photon Correlation Spectroscopy, Imaging Systems, Rheology and / or related subsystems a benefit. - Excellent problem solving ability and analytical skills. The ability to solve complex systems problems using a combination of sound experimental technique and good analytical understanding is of particular importance at this level. - Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. - Good experimental techniques, mathematical modelling of systems, ability to presentcomplex arguments simply both written and orally. - Ability to write computer programs for modelling particularly in C# and /or experience of toolssuch as MATLAB and LabView would be an advantage.
