Technical Lead / Principal Engineer £60,000 Redditch Technical Lead / Principal Engineer - About the opportunity The opportunity has arisen for a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to join an established manufacturer with a great reputation in the automotive industry. This newly created role will see you taking responsibility for all technical issues within the R&D department of electronics, software and mechanical engineers. Reporting to the Design & Development Manager, you will be the key contact to other departments on technical matters. You will use your in-depth electronics knowledge to oversee design work, and to assist and mentor junior engineers, as well as performing hands-on electronics design. Purpose of Role - Technical Lead / Principal Engineer The successful candidate will be a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer with vast electronics experience, the responsibilities of the role; - Oversight of all technical issues within R&D - Leading design reviews - Mentoring junior engineers - Hands-on electronics design and development, including schematics, PCB layout, & design verification - Providing technical input into product roadmaps and specifications - Leading technical brainstorms to assist in the resolution of problems / aiding design - Ensuring the department's technical lessons learnt are applied across all products - Assessing new technical tools - Implementing product reliability improvements and cost reductions - Assisting with the resolution of quality issues and field failures - Supporting customers on technical issues - Dealing with obsolescence issues - Supporting recruitment activities Candidate requirements - Quality Manager The ideal candidate must come from an electronic manufacturing environment and have the following skills, qualifications & experience: - Many years of in-depth analogue and digital electronics component level design experience - Extensive experience of designing products containing embedded microprocessors - Electronic CAD schematic and PCB layout design - Experience of designing for EMC and debugging of EMC approval issues - Low power, low voltage DC/DC converters - Use of common busses such as SPI, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, UART & Ethernet - Experience of embedded software development - Leading technical electronics design reviews - Design verification testing and debugging of electronic circuits - Experience working in a variety of electronics companies, with good practical knowledge of applying standard engineering practices such as gated review processes, change control, documentation etc. - Experience of the full product life cycle, including taking products into mass production - Creation of technical documentation - Ability to communicate at all levels, and the ability to summarize complex technical issues - Excellent written and verbal communications - Pro-activity - Attention to detail - Team working and very strong inter-personnel skills - Multi-tasking and ability to work under pressure Desirable Skills & Experience - Altium experience would be a benefit - RF Design - FMEA analysis - Programming & use of FPGA / CPLD - Some experience of mechanical design would be an advantage LEAN Engineering Recruitment Ltd are acting as a 3rd party on behalf of our client.
