Come and join us. The Role At this level, you're a "fully functioning member of the team". You're in demand for your skills and track record in delivering projects and people want you on their projects. You've got solid technical skills, are confident joining projects, taking on significant development, mentoring colleagues and client staff and building relationships with clients. You become the reason clients buy from us again. Your objective at this level should be to hone your skills across the board, develop advanced capability and create market demand for you as an individual. This means developing mastery and breadth of technical skill, the ability to create good team dynamics and win the trust of colleagues and clients, especially when things go wrong. You'll need to communicate well with technical and non-technicalpeople alike and be an integral part of ensuring the project runs smoothly. The client will have high expectations of your capabilities and the bulk of design and development will rest with you. In this role, you will: - Build RESTful web services to serve a variety needs and take responsibility for the quality of code you produce - Implement toolkits and APIs to assist with integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability often in legacy environments - Build tests that are automatable to support a continuous deployment environment - Share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, technical and non-technical - Support our quest for good working practices and share experiences via blogs or technical talks raising your own as well as the Methods profile. - Be involved in the recruitment process of new developers Essential skills: - Experience in a variety of development languages and approaches, with detailed knowledge of at least one of the following: - Understanding of and the ability to disseminate good software design principles - Quickly research and learn new tools and techniques - Solve problems in a systematic way consistently - Experience of using testing techniques to validate solutions - Understanding of agile working - Demonstrate strict use of source control and versioning - An awareness of technologies used in the web world and why, eg databases, backups etc - Back-end: Ruby, Java, Python, Javascript, Scala or Go - Front-end: CSS and HTML skills, as well as being comfortable with Javascript Desirable skills: - A view of technology as an enabler in creating class-leading digital services. - Understanding of the government digital service manual and standards across discovery/alpha/beta/live phases. - An eagerness to influence how digital services are delivered. - Experience of cloud SaaS, PaaS, IaaS technologies. - Experience mentoring technical staff and managing stakeholders.
