StepChange Debt Charity needs a Senior Public Policy Advocate to help us campaign for change to address the UK’s household debt problem that is harming millions of people right now. We are the UK’s largest specialist debt advice charity, contacted by around 600,000 people last year. We are working towards our vision of a UK society free from problem debt through our advice services and through calling for policy change.

Based in our London office you will join a committed policy team working to develop original research and briefings, and influencing public policy makers and the policies and practices of creditors and other key stakeholders.

You will take ownership of specific work streams, projects and responses, with a particular emphasis on financial service safety nets, utilities, debt solutions and consumer protection for people in financial difficulties. You will follow key developments in government policy, legislation, markets, social and economic trends. You will be willing to represent the charity at external events and in broadcast, print and social media, giving a voice to the problems we see and proposing solutions.

This is a demanding but fascinating role and you will be joining us at a time of high public concern over the causes and consequences of household debt. To succeed, you will be an experienced policy advocate with a detailed understanding of the public policy making process and an established track record of developing policy research and using this to influence key stakeholders. A working knowledge of policy issues relating to household debt problems is desirable.

In return for your hard work and commitment we offer an excellent benefits package which includes,

24 days holiday increasing by 1 day per year (up to a maximum of 29), the ability to buy and sell annual leave, Childcare Voucher Scheme, Season Ticket Loans, Cycle to work scheme, Annual Discretionary Bonus, Assisted study programme, Group Personal Pension Plan, Westfield Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme, Financial Planning, Long Service Awards.

Interviews will take place w/c 30th October 2017
