Purpose of the role:

We have an amazing opportunity for a Junior Product Developer to join our Central Product team based in Southampton.

The purpose of the role is to deliver the initial Product Development of various Combustible Product Platforms with an awareness for global implementation, following the New Product Introduction (NPI) / Product Protocols.

Principal accountabilities:


  • Deliver the Product Validation Plan established by the NPI Protocols;
  • Lead the Design FMEAs and perform the initial Filter and Cigarette Design;
  • Validate the Developments achieve the established Quality standards and deliver against the Consumer expectations;
  • Provide technical support to the Deployment teams to deliver the final product.
  • Leadership

  • Act as a technical leader within all projects;
  • Demonstrate leadership within the technical team, as well as in the larger Central Product community.
  • Management

  • Conduct the Product Validation activities (e.g. FMEA, Development and testing);
  • Act as owner of the project budget.
  • Relationships

  • Build trust with internal stakeholders: Global & Regional NPI, International Brand Group (IBG)-Product Managers, Consumer Product Managers and the Discovery & Deployment Teams;
  • Positively manage the relationship with external suppliers (e.g. Materials and Semi-Finish Goods, Manufacturing, Services, Research, etc.).
  • Innovation

  • Creative thinking to support the Brand Code and Operational Design Model Process;
  • Technical support to other teams within the development process.
  • Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrated competencies in Product Development and Project Management
  • Leadership Capabilities (Strategic & People Leadership)
  • Degree in a related field such as chemistry, biology, agricultural science or general science;
  • Experience in Product Development within the FMCG sector;
  • Experience within the tobacco industry (more than 5 years);
  • Good understanding of Combustible Tobacco Products, their Manufacturing steps and Materials in relation to product design;
  • Product analysis and evaluation from both Qualitative and Quantitative Consumer Tests;
  • Ability to coach effectively to transmit knowledge and experience;
  • A high level of creativity, drive, innovation and initiative, a self-starter and constant desire to learn.
  • PC capable, preferably with statistical analysis capabilities;
  • Good command of English language.
