The successful candidate will have the relevant skills and experience specified blew for this short 3 month temporary contract based in Cardiff. This assignment sits inside of IR35.
Job Description:Take responsibility for managing and updating data models, data architecture, data dictionaries, configuration and reference data catalogues. Work with business leads to identify and document data and reporting requirements. Design and maintain data models and manage data integration, performing data quality analysis and profiling tasks. Track business requirements and ensure that these can be matched from a data perspective. Take ownership of data related design decisions throughout the delivery process, including selection of tools to support data architecture activities. Ensure that data-specific project activities align technically and that the architecture is consistent from a data perspective. Ensure compliance with data related standards and key architectural principles. Manage stakeholder expectations and deliver complex IT projects to tight deadlines.
Creating high quality SAD and other technical documentation detailing product designs using common architectural language and schematics (TOGAF pref.). Assist in the design and prototyping of new database products and related services. Mentor in-house staff on documentation and architectural design best practice.
NWIS is responsible for the design, deployment and management of national Information, Communication & Technology (ICT) systems within NHS Wales and provides a range of services to the Welsh Government and NHS Organisations.
Our National Operational Databases team are looking for experienced Technical / Data Architects ideally from a database / DBA background for 3 months.
The successful candidates will produce technical / enterprise documentation to TOGAF standards for large database products and be keen to participate in the design and documentation of greenfield database projects.
Technical documentation is the primary focus for this role but a solid understanding of SQL Server 2008R2 – 2016, T-SQL, normalisation, indexing, partitioning and database administration tasks would be a distinct advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities
• To lead on producing high quality technical documentation for existing and new database products
• Help define documentation standards and mentor in-house technical / BA staff
• To participate in data modelling discussions for best practice database design
• To assist with requirements gathering and analysis of requirements
• To mentor in-house staff in DBA tasks including optimising tables, stored procedures, jobs, connection pooling and other DBA activities to maximise database efficiency and performance
• Other database-related duties as determined by the Principal or Senior Product Specialist from time to time.

The Technical / Data Architects must have the following qualifications:
• Degree in Information and IT related subject or equivalent qualification or experience
• TOGAF 9 Foundation or equivalent experience
• Ideally Microsoft Certified Database Administrator or equivalent experience.
Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are essential for this role. All CV’s submitted must evidence the candidates proven experience and strong skills in the following areas:
• Experienced in delivering high quality technical and architectural documentation (TOGAF standards) for database products (ideally SQL Server)
• Enterprise architecture experience and familiarity with EA frameworks
• Understanding of secure architectures and designs
• Experience of working in a high availability 24x7 environment
• Writing complex Data manipulation statements using T-SQL as stored procedures, views and functions
• Normalisation techniques and ER-diagramming to design and create scalable, high-performance databases
• Good communicator and mentor for in-house BA and technical staff

Experience and knowledge in some of the following areas is also advantageous:
• Agile SDLC processes and work planning using Team Foundation Server
• Good understanding of software design patterns inc n-tier, MVC
• .NET C# RESTful, SOAP and FHIR web services
• HL7 messaging, interface (rules) engines
• XML – particularly the use of with SQL Server
• Redgate SQL developer tools
• Requirements analysis
We are looking for experienced Technical / Data Architects ideally with a database / DBA background who can quickly learn our systems and deliver against objectives without close supervision.
