Purpose of job:

To manage the implementation and evaluation of the internal communications and engagement strategy and lead on the two-way engagement initiatives at the heart of the Internal Communications mission.

To take a lead role in creating online opportunities for staff to engage with the organisation’s priorities, leadership team and topical issues using the most appropriate channels; to manage the innovation and development of online internal communications channels – particularly two-way channels (eg online discussions, webinars and managed online forums), and to use all these tools to help build our internal culture and sense of being ‘one British Council’.

To develop audiovisual and social media tools for internal use. To lead on ongoing measurement and evaluation of all these online channels and make recommendations for future developments.

To lead on staff engagement communications for London office move in 2020.

To lead on internal audience research with a focus on qualitative data and feedback and to lead on analysis and recommendations based on the results.

To play a lead role in convening the network of internal communication specialists across the regions, Strategic Business Units and support functions in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Network Manager.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: (including people management and finance)

Implement internal communications deliverables around specific initiatives as agreed in performance plan and internal communications and engagement strategyGenerate new ideas for development of online internal comms channels – particularly two-way, social media and audiovisual – and contributing to overall Internal Communications and Engagement strategy.Ensure intranet homepage reflects internal customer needs and feedback and incorporates degree of two-way communicationConduct internal audience research to inform corporate internal communications as well as provide feedback, evidence, ‘temperature test’ material and recommendations to senior leadership and wider management teams.Enforce, monitor and evaluate standards for the British Council's internal communications and lead the way in use of appropriate tone and approach to encourage engagement.Support the global network of internal communication specialists, identifying areas where Internal Communications can provide support, examples of best practice and standardised approaches to internal communications.To manage the relationship with IKM in order to develop and improve channels and the intranet, agreeing on shared deliverables, overseeing their implementation and evaluating their impact.Support and deputise for the Head of Internal Communications and Engagement as and when needed.To deputise for the Head of Internal Communications and Engagement as and when needed
