System Administrator / IT Support – Windows Server – VMware – NetApp, Active Directory

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent systems administrator in central London to work as part of a small but dynamic team in a well-known established publishing company.You will be working together with an existing systems administrator and reporting directly to the IT director.The ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is essential.The job is split between systems administration and some helpdesk support work. You will be working in a mixed environment made up of Windows/Linux and MAC OS X clients.

Key Skills:Netapp, VMware, Windows server, Active Directory, GPO, HP Blades

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience of working in a similar post with strong experience of infrastructure.

Above all we require someone with a self-starting, can-do attitude and with excellent organisational skills and a candidate who enjoys a challenge.


·Responsible for making sure the servers and infrastructure are configured and run to a high standard

·Maintain infrastructure (networks, VMware, Servers, SAN, DR, Backups, Updates)

·Maintain Security updates and patches for all servers

·Ensure security of infrastructure, applications and data

·Maintain Microsoft Active Directory / Manage Group Policy

·Manage and Maintain VMware systems

·Network administration of LAN

·Management and operation of NetApp

·Participate in the migration from Hyper-v to VMware

·Participate in the migration from HP storage to Netapp

·Monitor performance and reliability of various systems including server logs

·Recommend best practices and improvements to infrastructure, servers and systems

·Daily Monitoring of all Key systems.

·Configuration and management of all computing equipment including clients & printers

·Provide frontline technical support for Mac and Windows users

·Work with Support team to implement resolutions to any problems.

·Provide up to date information to the IT Director about any issues encountered and their resolution

·Research and design solutions and participate in any technical projects

·Performance tuning and optimization

·Manage MS SQL and PostgreSQL database systems

·Support the Development and implementation of applications

·Maintain documentation for all systems

·Provide technical support at all levels in the company when required

·Participate in any other tasks as directed by head of IT

·Provision of systems access and creation and maintenance of active directory and GPO

·Deploy backup, anti-virus and asset management

·Participate in other IT related tasks as directed by Head of IT

Essential Skills

·Must be fluent Spanish speaker

·Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012 R2

·Active Directory, IIS, GPO, WSUS

·Linux Skills (SLES and Ubuntu an advantage)


·NetApp Storage

·MS SQL Server (2005 /2008)

·Understanding of TCPIP & DNS

·PowerShell Scripting

·Good Documentation Skills

·Desktop Support

·Networking Knowledge

·Excellent communicationand problem solving skills

·Must be available and willing to work extended hours when required as well as working during some weekends throughout the year when required.

·Enthusiastic and willing to participate on other tasks as directed by the IT Director

·Well Presented with excellent business communications skills

·Ability to work in a fast paced environment and under pressure

Desirable skills (an advantage if you have any of these)

·HP ProLiant Servers (blade)

·Apple Mac OS clients

·Publishing experience ideal but not essential

·Nagios / PRTG / Splunk

·Experience with application support an advantage

·SAN storage (HP)


·Cisco LAN
