This Northampton business who have been established for 20 years are looking to recruit a Senior Web Software Engineer. The company has 100+ clients and creates websites with sophisticated, bespoke programming of back-end systems, which are regularly updated and enhanced. The company's focus is providing services to SME's employing 3 - 150 people, who see development for them on the internet as integral to their ongoing business. The company provides both programming development and web marketing to support and enable these developments. Full stack LAMP web software engineer incorporating PHP, MySql, Javascript, CSS and Html reporting to the Head of Engineering and Production. You will be working in a small team of dedicated web developers that are embarking on the road to be Northampton's premier web engineering team. The work involves maintaining existing customer systems, creating new functionality for those systems and creating new web systems from small brochure sites to large e-commerce applications serving a broad range of commercial requirements. In addition they have embarked in re-engineering our core delivery platform using the latest technology and techniques to provide a continuous delivery platform for our clients. What we are looking for: - 5 - 8+ years developing bespoke web applications in a disciplined manner, probably within a digital agency environment, but certainly from an environment where maintenance and ongoing development of multiple existing and new systems is the norm. - Solid experience of working in an Agile environment preferably using Kanban. - Demonstrable communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to present ideas to technical and none technical colleagues in a fluent manner. - Willing to mentor other developers and be an authority in specialist subject areas. - Grounded manner. Understands the value of software to the customer whilst at the same time understanding the commercial realities involved in its production. Essential technical skills: - PHP 5.4 to 7.0 - Object oriented programming - Procedural programming - Proficient in using IDE of choice - Good experience of using Composer - Will be currently using an MVC framework and will have used others in the past - Will be employing Unit testing (using CodeCeption of PHPUnit) at a minimum and Acceptance testing (using CodeCeption or Behat) as an added bonus. - Javascript ECMA 5 & 6 - Jquery and other frameworks and toolkits - HTML + CSS - Can create Html layouts from visual designs - Can translate Html layouts into Twig or other view templating frameworks - Will currently be using SASS or LESS - MySql/Mariadb to current versions - Fluent in SQL - Apache 2.4 - Able to configure a new server for development purposes - *nix - Can demonstrate enough *nix knowledge to connect, configure and operate a development LAMP server - Git (inc. Github, Stash, Bitbucket and the like) - Thoroughly grounded in the use of Git for version control Desirable technical skills - Has used Jenkins or similar to control software delivery and implement automated testing - Can manage a Git server - Maintains their own GitHub account and develops software 'just because they can'. And even better, uses a programming language other than the one that pays the bills! - Has experience of Jira or other enterprise level workflow management systems - Can package PHP applications for Composer/Packagist and RPMs - *nix - Will prefer developing in a *nix environment to match the production environments - MySql/Mariadb - Able to design relational data systems - Programming - understands and uses design patterns Where you don't have these skills the management will support and up skill.
