A 'Good' School based in Lambeth are looking to recruit an Autism Teacher for their primary department to start at October half term on a full time and long term basis. The school will offer permanent contracts to candidates who fit the ethos of the school and provide specialist teaching adapted to suit the needs of their students after a probation period of 1 term. Autism Teachers will need to be able to teach across the curriculum and differentiate lessons according to their needs. As an Autism teacher you will complete 1:1 support for students including assisting in personal care tasks (feeding, changing, toileting etc.). This Autism Teacher role would suit a primary or secondary trained teacher who is able to teach across either curriculums and differentiate appropriately. The school has an amazing training scheme and induction programme and as a result, encourages applications from NQTs.
The ideal ASD teacher will have the following:
- Has had classroom based experience either in mainstream or SEN
- Has experience teaching/supporting ASD students
- Strong subject knowledge of the national curriculum
- Experience using PECs and Makaton (desirable but not essential)
- Team Teach (A huge bonus but not essential)
- Has QTS
The school applies a holistic approach to learning, and works closely with the speech therapists, the occupational therapist and the educational psychologist, the school doctor and nurse, as well as outside agencies to enable all children and young people with special educational needs to access the curriculum. The school aims for each child to leave as happy and independent young people who are ready to enter further education and uses a range of methods to achieve this including Intensive Interaction, Social Stories and Lego Therapy.
