IT Infrastructure Technologist National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Sussex Permanent, 35 hours per week £30,954.96 per annum (starting salary subject to experience) plus excellent benefits Cats Protection is the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 190,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 adoption centres and homing centres. The main responsibility of the IT Infrastructure Technologist will be to ensure all assigned immediate operational work, upgrades, and support requests are dealt with to agreed levels of service and customer satisfaction, whilst supporting and assisting with other staff within the IT Infrastructure team and across the IT department. The IT Infrastructure Technologist will: 1 Help maintain a high level of availability and integrity for all of Cats Protection IT systems, resolving issues & requests in the most responsive, efficient, and cost effective manner. Maintain accurate and complete logs where appropriate. 2 Supply & implement IT equipment and solutions that are robust and fit for purpose, enabling all sites, departments, volunteers and Branches to gain maximum benefit and productivity from their use of IT. 3 Undertake necessary regular procedures, and check that they are successful and logged where appropriate. 4 Undertake (and sometimes lead) projects for new IT system implementations and upgrades - particularly where impacting server, network, security and telephony infrastructure. These must be on-time, fully tested, and deliver the required additional functionality in accordance with the specifications, so they achieve a smooth & gradual progression of the IT systems which can be fully and easily supported. 5 Assist the IT Services Manager to work within project budgets & expenditure - by helping to minimise costs and maximise returns on investment. 6 Offer professional help, assistance, and support (which may include training, demonstrations, and presentations), to all staff & volunteers for IT applications and systems, as within your capabilities and areas of expertise. 7 Write user documentation and guidelines that are easy for the target audience to understand. Provide support and guidance to make sure these are followed. 8 Understand and adhere to all IT policies and procedures, suggesting improvements in these areas. Keep system documentation complete and up-to-date; minimise risks by spreading knowledge across multiple IT Infrastructure and Services staff. 9 Understand and support the strategic and technical direction for IT across the Charity. 10 Contribute to the ongoing development, execution, and review of organisational Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity plans as impacting IT systems. 11 Provide support and backup to other IT functions when other staff are absent. 12 Actively contribute to maintaining a good team spirit and working environment. 13 Maintain close links and relationships with external suppliers / partners and other Charities as necessary to support Cats Protection goals and IT projects. 14 Create good working relationships with colleagues, staff, and volunteers, and ensure regular, frequent, and effective communications are maintained. 15 Be aware of, and adhere to, security and confidentiality policies affecting any sensitive information that may be encountered during the performance of duties. 16 In effectively undertaking this role, some travel to other Cats Protection sites, Branches, external conferences and other organisations may be required, and there may be requirements for activities to be undertaken outside normal working hours. In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection's policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice, and to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive. Our ideal person will have the following skills and experience: Qualifications: - Literacy and numeracy qualifications to at least GCSE level, or equivalent Experience: - Supporting a Windows based Active Directory network - Supporting multi-site network communications and infrastructure technologies Skills and Attributes : - Proven ability to work on own initiative - Methodical and concise - Flexible and adaptable - Excellent customer service skills - Ability to explain IT related matters to non-technical customers, with excellent oral & written communications skills - Sympathetic to cats and the strategic aims and ethos of the charity Knowledge : - Fundamental IP networking principles Other: - Able to travel in the UK - Able to work out of hours as required - Full UK driving licence A full job description and person spec are available once you begin your application.
