Technical Service Manager
Technical Manager job based in Nottingham paying £40 - £45k. Days shifts though some flexibility required.
Your new role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will work within a small, close knit and highly motivated team. This role is a key contributor to supporting the company in its desire to offer the most reliable urban transport system in the UK. You will provide technical leadership for the fleet and build an excellent working relationship with the maintenance provider.
You'll manage the daily service delivery of the equipment and ensure that technical standards, maintenance practices and cleaning activities are complied with and that safety is given utmost priority by cultivating and promoting a strong health & safety culture. You'll ensure effective audit and performance management mechanisms are established and undertake regular audits of maintenance and cleaning contractor's systems, processes and service delivery to ensure activities are safe, cost-effective and meet the obligations of the operating contract. You'll work closely with the maintenance partner to consistently deliver a safe, high quality and reliable service, providing the link between the Operations team and the maintenance provider. Work with You'll identify modifications and improvements of the machinery and the maintenance regime. You'll provide reliability analysis and technical leadership to the maintenance provider and to the company and monitor the reliability and availability performance. A key part of your role will be to lead investigations into any technical matters and review and approve changes to maintenance standards, processes and procedures for vehicles based on sound engineering practices. You'll chair regular review meetings with the contracted parties, review invoices to ensure accuracy and approval of contract variations (where appropriate) and agree failure allocations.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be able to understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings and have demonstrable experience of maintenance management systems (i.e. SAP, Maximo etc). Your good knowledge of current technical standards and legislation is essential for this job as is your experience of working within a rail depot or for a manufacturer of trains or carriages. You will have excellent communication skills particularly in managing contracts with suppliers. Your excellent skills in data analysis and MS Excel will be invaluable to this role. You will also be a self-starter and able to work autonomously.
This role will best suit someone who may currently be a Service Delivery Manager/ Technical Manager, commissioning engineer etc, probably someone who wishes to develop their career, maybe move off the tools or take a step away from shift management.
What you'll get in return
You'll be offered a competitive salary of between £40-£45k, depending on experience, and a excellent benefits package. Based upon an average of 40 hours per week. Working hours are not fixed, but normally 0800 to 1600. There is no requirement to normally cover shifts however it is the nature of the role that occasionally this will be required. There is a requirement to be on call approximately one week in six.
