The successful candidate will have the relevant skills and experience specified below for this 8 month temporary contract based in London. Please Note: This assignment sits outside of IR35.
About the Client: GLD are looking for an Employment Lawyer who can conduct employment litigation on behalf of a variety of Government departments.The Successful candidate will be required to undertake a varied caseload in all areas of legal work as required, primarily including:

- Employment based proceedings in courts, appeals and tribunals

- Interviewing witnesses and recording witness statements.

- Conducting settlement negotiations with opposing representatives.

- Liaising with key Stakeholders as required.
- Advice in matters relating to Employment Law
- Advice in matters relating to access to information and data protection

You should be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister preferably with public sector experience, however, this is not essential.

Job Description:To manage broad range of varied case work activities complying with policies, standards, procedures and service level agreements.Deal with complex and non routine cases exercising appropriate levels of delegation and risk management.Maintain accurate and comprehensible case files. Co-ordinate all activities relating to the successful completion of the case including.Ensure the timely handling of invoices during each case.Comply with Litigation Group’s Quality policies.Provide a legal service that addresses client needs from outset of each case through to case completion.Provide a legal service that is proactive not reactive.Manage all aspects of the client relationship for each allocated case. Align the service provided with the client needs in a way that enhances the Agency’s reputation.Build and maintain relationships with clients demonstrating an understanding of commercial, political and policy context including effective use of the relevant client care system.Ensure each client is aware of the agreed extent of the service to be provided and cost implications.Keep each client informed as the case progresses.
Employment Law experience needed.
• Solid knowledge of Employment law and related concepts • Experience of litigation strategy • High standard of legal research across legal databases • Public sector/Central Government experience (ideal but not essential) • Good drafting and written ability • Excellent communication skills to deal with clients and other parties from a variety of backgrounds • Excellent time management skills • Meeting billing targets
• Uses a process of analysis, planning, scheduling, prioritising, action, quality monitoring and review.
• Takes responsibility for own work with substantial degree of autonomy but knowing when to consult and to delegate.
• Gives early warning to those affected by changing priorities, including the Reporting Officer.
• Displays an understanding of the resourcing requirements of own cases.
• Has up-to-the minute case files readily available.
• Displays an understanding of the context the client operates in.
• Displays the professional attitude that client and company expect from a member of an organisation with a high reputation.
• Adopts a style most likely to build an effective working relationship with the client.
• Responds to reasonable client requests including agreeing achievable and realistic actions, timescales etc.
• Acknowledges clients’ concerns and works to alleviate these in a way that balances client and Agency needs.
• Is alert to media interest which may have an impact on the reputation of the client and/or the Agency.
• Helps other team members to meet tight deadlines to preserve department’s reputation.
• Display Civil Service Values, help other people, focus on customer service and look proactively for solutions.
• Keeps abreast of legal developments and current thinking on related policy issues.
• Uses training and other methods to refresh and improve their skills and knowledge.

Please Note: The lower pay rate advertised in this job description is the PAYE daily pay rate. The higher pay rate advertised in this job description is the highest Umbrella Company daily pay rate that the client is willing to pay up to.
