About The Role ISIS is a source of pulsed neutrons and muons located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, near Oxford. The facility performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level. The position on offer requires a qualified, self-motivated and experienced electrical and electronic technician, based within the RF group of the ISIS Accelerator Division. It has a primary function to support and maintain both personnel protection system (PPS) and beam permit system (BPS) interlock equipment, alongside an array of associated hardware, installations and related development and upgrade needs. Reporting directly to a section leader you will be expected to have close contact with immediate colleagues as well as other scientists, engineers, technicians and control room staff within ISIS, while also being confident to liaise with external manufacturers and suppliers. Duties of the role will include: - working closely with the section leader to ensure regular and routine maintenance, testing and proving of installed systems is undertaken - design, develop and manufacture the prototype and operationally ready hardware - contribute to suitable and necessary documentation, its generation and archiving - involvement in formal change requests - share out of hours machine support through an on call roster. About You It is essential that you have a relevant Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent or a ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical Electronic Engineering. You will have the ability to contribute to designs and solutions for a wide range of technologies as a skilled technician, proven experience with control circuits, low voltage relay logic and PLC based systems and practical skills suited to installation, building, wiring, fault finding and repair of such electrical and electronic devices and equipment. You will have the ability to use electrical test equipment such as DVM and oscilloscope and be able to measure, record and interpret measurements and readings. You must understand health and safety requirements relevant to the role, be fit, healthy and be able to manage occasional work at height or in confined space environments. It is essential that you are able to take part in the ISIS on-call system to provide out of hours support.
