Wingfield, Leighton Buzzard Pay rates: £11.00 pr hr week days £13.00 pr hr w/ends & bank holidays (depending on experience) Hours: Bank hours as required to provide cover for staff's annual leave/unexpected absences from school. Working patterns:- - At least 2 Sats per month - split shifts 8 am - 2 pm or 2 pm - 8 pm. - For shifts during school holidays - times tba - Occasionally when Mum needs help to take our client to appointments - Flexibility for occasional availability during term times of 7 am - 8.30 am & 4 pm to 8 pm About the client: Our client is a 13-year old boy, who has cerebral palsy, physical & communication difficulties. He lives with his parents & younger sister. This is a rewarding job with a bright, enthusiastic boy with a great sense of humour. The role: You will have experience working with children either within the home environment or the wider community & demonstrate a genuine interest in this area. You will help with all activities of daily living to enable him to access play, learning & social activities, incl. his computer systems & iGaze. You will promote his well-being & support him in implementing therapy programmes. Main duties: - Assist with client's daily activities incl.personal care, toileting, feeding & medication plus maintaining the areas of the house utilised by the client. - Liaise with client's parents, team leader/case manager regarding his on-going care. - Follow advice & recommendations made by Therapists i.e. on exercises etc. - Engage him in stimulating play under the guidance. - Maintain daily physiotherapy & postural management programs. - Assist in the care of his sister when the parents are spending time with their disabled son. - Maintain accurate records/own records of hours worked incl. time sheets expenditure records. - Participate in training appropriate to the needs of client/regular supervision by the Case Manager/Team Leader. Essential - Previous experience of working with children within the home/wider community - Respectful & confident working in the client's own home, sensitive to needs and wishes of his family - Able to establish a good rapport with children & to engage them in activities appropriate to their age/abilities - A positive outlook, sense of humour /fun encouraging approach - Patient & tolerant/good communicator - Honest, reliable & trustworthy with a responsible attitude - A flexible approach & able to use own initiative - Fit & able to move & handle, using equipment (training will be given) - Able to maintain effective working relationships & work effectively as part of a team - Able to demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality/privacy - A basic knowledge & understanding of computers - Car driver / Non smoker Desirable: - Relevant qualifications in child care, teaching &/or nursing. - Previous experience working with children with complex needs. An enhanced DBS is required, a conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.
