A really exciting, challenging and interesting job opportunity for an experienced and passionate Software Engineer to join an established international business in its new UK office on a permanent basis. The organisation is setting up its new base here in central Bristol, to launch in the UK market, having already been successful in multiple overseas locations. The position offers excellent scope for being a key part of the company's future expansion and success in their market, as well as taking real ownership of the user search experience.
Your new role
You will work in a fast growing team of developers, mobile engineers and UX designers working on the core web applications for the business on the Ruby on Rails framework. You'll be involved from design and development through to delivery and optimisation of innovative user search experiences using Elasticsearch. You'll take responsibility, owning the process to design clean, reusable, well tested code, and ultimately support the business in delivering a product of the highest quality, with user experience at the heart of the company's focus.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have solid commercial experience as a Developer using Ruby and Rails, and with using Elasticsearch, you will be used to working across the full software development lifecycle. If you have exposure to or knowledge of Python and /or Java, information retrieval, language processing, recommendation systems, or exposure to machine learning this would be an advantage. As a developer, you are technically very capable, really passionate and driven about engineering the best solutions, always striving to work to your best ability and taking great pride in your work. You must enjoy being very hands on, be naturally curious, thinking about new approaches and comfortable in suggesting ideas and providing solutions. You will be a confident communicator, able to make effective decisions, happy to take on ownership for your work, proactive and capable of working on your own initiative, as well as working collaboratively with the wider multi location team.
