Job Title: Software Developer - Accounting software Type: Permanent (35 hour week) Location: Rickmansworth, (role can be part home based after probation period) Salary: £36 to 40K + comprehensive benefits package A leading provider of IT Solutions to the Public Sector requires an experience software developer to join a successful team developing a very successful Finance / Accounting software product for a large number of UK customers. The role is responsible for using and extending the development framework for the application to build and maintain business applications, modules and products. The development framework enables the rapid development of data schemas etc. to create highly functional products. Role: - Analyse requirements / specifications to assess impact and risk, verify acceptance criteria, design solutions, scope and size development work - Understand and extend the capabilities of the development framework making best use of them to develop high quality software - Review reported software defects (internal and external) to determine impact, risk and necessary action - Actively participate with the team in agile planning, reviews and retrospectives - Engage with customers and others as necessary to get the job done - Produce internal and end user documentation as required - Effectively use internal systems including version control, work tracking and time recording Essential Skills: - Programming experience using Scripting Languages. Any language, but JScript preferred - Programming experience using C++ and / or C# - Good working knowledge of SQL including query design - Working knowledge of HTML - Experience using or designing a development framework or 4GL (for example Progress 4GL, Oracle Forms, Ab Initio or PowerBuilder) for building business applications - Test planning and test execution - Competent in the use of MS Office products, particularly Excel macro's - Experience of one or more of the following: book-keeping, accounting, accounts production, HR & payroll systems. Experience ideally as a software developer, but could also be through a consulting or support role. - Collaborative team player and natural problem solver - Great communication skills (including with customers and with remote team members and teams via conferencing) - "Can do" attitude. Willing and able to take the initiative and work on multiple projects in parallel, prioritising as required - Demonstrate continual improvement approach in all aspects of work - Proven ability to deliver to timescales Desirable skills: - The Business Applications Developer will work as part of a multi-skilled development team and will be able to gain and make use of additional technical skills primarily based around the Microsoft Platform and .NET development tools. - Knowledgeable in the effective use of TFS and VSTS to support agile development - Previous experience of Scrum
