Experienced or junior DBA required for full- time, permanent position within a growing and dynamic financial services business. This is a thriving business, with a growing IT team - as such candidates at all levels will be considered. The purpose of the role is to provide a secure, scalable, performing, compliant database infrastructure to support and further enhance company wide systems. As the DBA, you will be ultimately responsible for delivering any data related requests. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES - Troubleshooting SQL Server service outages as they occur - Troubleshoot user complaints about system performance - When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes or index/query changes - Conduct SQL Server training sessions for the data team - Provide coaching and mentoring of the data teams SQL tasks - Advise the data team on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions and views) - Design tables and assign datatypes in-line with data classification requirements - Implement and document SQL DBA security ensuring roles and permissions are enforced and managed using best practice - Be the go to person for T-SQL questions - Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) - As new systems, suppliers and sellers are on-boarded, use the relevant technology and best practice DB configurations - Work with the developers and data team on the most resource-intensive queries on the server and suggest ways to improve performance - Provide the developers and data team with day to day support on all DB related tasks - Ensure all DB's are managed and maintained securely. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Criteria - GCSE in technical subjects such as Math, Physics, Computing, Statistics etc. - A level or degree - ideally in analytical skills/subjects Previous Work Experience - Must have had some DBA responsibilities in your previous jobrole(s) - May have worked in database development BI/MI role Specific Knowledge - Expert Excel and Microsoft packages - Database skills, modelling background, Business Intelligence Specific Skills - NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE ALL OF THESE SKILLS TO APPLY - Experience using SQL Integration Services and Reporting Services - Experienceusing SQL Analysis Services - Experience in writing and improving SQL Server T-SQL queries - On-call troubleshooting experience with production SQL Server - Configuration of SQL Server monitoring utilities to proactively manage performance and minimize the risk of failures - Installation and configuration of new SQL Servers - Deploying database change scripts provided by third party suppliers - Full documentation at all levels of database environments - Experience using DMV queries to answer questions about server-level performance - Diagnose server reliability and performance issues using free tools - Tuning T-SQL queries to improve performance - Ensure that new database, MI and BI code meets company standards for readability, reliability and performance - Ensure that new database, MI and BI code is delivered following a rigid change control and management process from approval to sign off - Design indexes for applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes - Using profiler traces and other tools to find the most frequently run and resource intensive queries - Experience implementing data mining and BI tools such as Qlikview - Experience of failover clustering, SAN replication, and other high availability technologies - SQL Server merge, peer to peer or transactional replication - Troubleshooting hardware using tools like HP System Insight Manager, and Citrix Director - Experience using DB clustering, log shipping and mirroring - Worked with hosted DB's in Windows Azure, or other similar environments and technologies IF YOU HAVE SOME BUT NOT ALL OF THESE SKILLS THEN YOUR APPLICATION WILL STILL BE CONSIDERED. The IT team is crucial to the business success and growth, as such the business will need a strong database team and several experts to work together.
