The Role - Lead UX Designer Location - London (Spitalfields) Package - £60,000 / £65,000 with pension, healthcare, PC/Mac / Whatever kit you want etc. Overview: There are a million and one UX Design roles around Shoreditch way and many of them will say the same thing to tempt you on board. So why should this be the one that attracts you? I'll state the normal background and yes, this is a young tech start up that has been in business for a few years and has a multi-million pound VC backed structure. They are London based with an international presence so offer both the existing, intelligent software product that is doing really well, plus a few clear additional expansions to the product that could really push them forwards on a global basis. Above and beyond that though, it's the sector that they are in and what value it can bring. They are not a charity and they make money, that's the first point but once we looked into what their goal is, this is what sets them aside from a good chunk of the other SaaS / Software Businesses in the area. It's an intelligent software platform that gives under privileged kids a fighting chance of being on level pegging with the other children that are more fortunate than them. The software is only in primary schools, and they have about 5,000 1-2-1 sessions per week with the child and a tutor. It's mainly funded by the government and is simple to use and offers proven results. This is totally interactive with a large amount of AI, and verbal communication is constant between tutor and pupil and this learning science involves close work with some of the top universities in the World to gain insight into how this teaching can be improved. The product is interesting and constantly evolving so as the UX Lead, you'll need to consider multiple user types (Students aged 6-11, teachers / IT staff etc.) but the main focus will be improving the UX for the 300+ tutors who work with the business on a global basis. This involves enhancing the full life cycle from validation, training, preparation, teaching and feedback via the software products and this needs to be integrated with the AI & machine learning technology. The UX at the moment involves tutors working at various learning centre locations around the World who will teach children in the UK, but moving forward the design will need to support both a mixture of teams on physical site alongside consultant tutors working virtually. It's the ability to build an experience that creates strong effects and results alongside the ability to scale - whilst still retaining the sense of community that is essential for the future success. Your background? Ideally what we are looking for is a UX lead that comes from a small team within a large company. The sizeable professional user base (In excess of 10,000) would be important due to the target scale, but this is a job for a real all-rounder who can see things through from start to finish, which is why we've found more success with UX designers that have this all round exposure = small team rather than large. Specific tools & processes used would be UXPin / Sketch & Axure and you'll need a deep and wide knowledge of the standard UX design tools and processes so again, user interviews - surveys - storyboarding - paper prototyping - wireframing - data analysis - testing & style guides. Sector - obviously educational / learning software would be great but we've seen a lot of synergy with UX designers coming from the fitness industry, call centre or banking. Reasoning is the user being on a web site for a specific reason for a specific time with an end result that can be measured It's your desire to adapt, adopt and make your previous knowledge contribute to the UX team that is key. If there is an enhancement and better way of doing things, work with the rest of your team and call this out. If you want to work on the latest innovations around and about AI to continue to develop intelligent educational and learning systems then this could be a win - win. You'll have a real chance to influence on a global basis in a software company and you'll earn a good living, work in a great environment & location but the fruits of your labour could make a genuine difference to people that otherwise could fall through the gaps in the educational system, so if that means something to you then drop us a line.
