We are seeking an enthusiastic and proven Senior or Principal level engineer to join our established and expanding Water team in London. You will be joining the UK's top consultant for flood and coastal erosion risk management and the largest provider of water related projects to clients including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and SEPA, as well as private sector clients. We are looking for an engineer to contribute to and lead on a broad range of projects covering all aspects of flood risk management including assessments, solution development and preparation of business case documents. Our current projects involve initial assessments, reservoir remediation works, catchment strategies, coastal erosion studies and management of detailed design. Examples of projects we are currently involved in include: - the programmatic delivery of a large number of flood risk management (FRM) feasibility studies in the Upper Thames catchment - PDUs (Programme Delivery Units) in 6 out of the 7 Environment Agency Hubs - complex hydraulic modelling studies throughout the UK - detailed design of flood alleviation schemes such as in Lewisham and Catford, and Oxford. Schemes can involve the full range of flood risk management measures from traditional raised defences to innovative Natural Flood Management techniques - high profile programmes such as TEAM2100 This is a senior, technical role that is likely to involve mentoring of staff, contributing to bids and business development, peer reviewing deliverables as well as working alongside Project Mangers to lead and contribute to the technical delivery of projects. The key responsibilities of the role include: - Working alongside the Project Manager to oversee and direct the technical elements of projects - Contribute to the delivery of projects, (e.g. production of calcs/drawings/etc as well as peer review and QA of calcs/deliverables produced by others) - Working with clients to understand their requirements and develop solutions to respond to these - Contribute to bids and business development activities (for example developing method statements and resource estimates for proposals) - Provide technical leadership to the local Water team - Share your expertise and experience with other CH2M offices (within the UK and globally) - Mentoring members of the team and guiding them through the professional recognition process - If of interest: project management activities The minimum qualifications for this position are: The expectation is that you will have direct practical experience in the UK flood risk management sector, either as a consultant or client, (Environment Agency, Local Authority, IDB, etc). - A relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Flood Risk Management or other relevant subject - Post graduate experience in the UK Water and FRM sector with the ability to demonstrate working at a more senior level, (e.g. leadership and direction of work packages as well as personal delivery) - Chartered with a relevant professional body (or close to becoming Chartered) - Strong communication skills, both written and oral - An interest in mentoring and developing staff - Knowledge and experience of UK codes and standards - Commercial awareness Our Culture: Safety & health conscious, flexible working conditions, collaborative & friendly with regular social activities.
