Employer Description This is an international leader in the field of construction and mining equipment. Based in County Durham, the business employs around 400 people engaged in the design and manufacture of medium-sized hydraulic excavators. Job Description We are looking for a Service Desk Engineer Apprentice to work on solving customer (user) requests and incidents. The duration of the apprenticeship is 15 months. Working alongside the existing team, you would be supported while you complete your Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship. In this role, you will be providing support to internal customers on a range of proprietary and bespoke software systems and associated hardware. Duties/ Responsibilities Starting on a 13-15 month Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship (level 3) the role will involve the following main duties: - Registering requests into the ICT service management system - Using communication and analytical skills to diagnose the exact nature of the customer request - Researching possible solutions (knowledge, procedures, manuals, web) - Applying the appropriate solution and ensuring it resolves the issue, that the customer is satisfied with the resolution, within the expected service level time - Managing ICT assets effectively - addition, repair, and disposal ensuring up to date information in the asset register - Installing and configuring end user equipment (PC's, mobile telephones, desktop telephones etc) - Performing daily monitoring checks and responding to automated alerts to ensure data and system availability - Performing routine (documented) service and maintenance tasks on various ICT systems - Performing user administration on the basis of approved requests and documented procedures There will also be the opportunity to gain experience of system development by assisting the ICT Business Analysts and ICT Software Engineer on projects and system changes. Qualities / essential requirements: - Keen to develop a career in IT - Good communication skills, both written and verbal - Well-organised - Self-motivated - Methodical approach - Able to work as part of a team Desired Qualifications - Minimum 3 GCSE's at C or above PLUS English and Maths at D or above (Please note that under the new qualification descriptors only grade 4 and above can be accepted) Other information Hours of work - 37 hrs per week Monday-Thursday 8am to 4:45 pm and on Friday from 8am to 12:45 pm Benefits - Starting on £190.07 per week with opportunity to achieve increases based on performance in the role after 6 and 12 months - Opportunity to become a permanent employee at the end of the apprenticeship Important Information "QA's apprenticeship programmes may be funded in part by the European Union through the European Social Fund, which supports the development of employment opportunities and a skilled workforce."
