Embedded Software Engineer (Linux) Location: West Drayton, UB7 7PN Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 per annum About the company: Flight Data Systems is a multinational and vertically integrated aerospace product and services organisation operating for over 25 years with in excess of 50 staff based in offices across the UK, Australia and United States. As a niche services organisation with expertise in all aspects of aircraft crash recording systems (e.g. black boxes), it has customers for all aspects of this cycle; acquisition of digital and analog sensor information on the aircraft, recording of that information during flight, download at the aircraft, post analysis of the data, as well as final feedback to the operators of the aircraft. Duties of the Embedded Software Engineer (Linux) - Support Development of our Hand Held Multi-Purpose Interface product line, a hand-held custom tool designed to interface with and download flight data recorders, test aircraft sensors, listen to cockpit voice recorders etc. This product is Linux based with a System on Chip device (dual core ARM processor, large FPGA) with a touch screen display. - Support Development of our Automated Test Equipment - which is a large rack mount PC style product with a number of test cards and LUA based scripting to perform tests of flight recorders and other avionic products. Requirements of the Embedded Software Engineer (Linux) - Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or Software Engineering - Significant experience in both C and C++ - Embedded Linux expertise on ARM platforms, both low level (Kernel) and high level (Application) - Significant exposure to test, debug, efficient and automated methods of testing - Exposure to both highly controlled (i.e. waterfall) as well as agile development methodologies - Experience with change and configuration management including versioning processes - Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including technical documentation - Development of software in an avionics environment (Desirable) - Experience with flight data recorders, data processing, engineering unit conversion, analysis (Desirable) - Experience with Design Assurance development processes under RTCA DO-178 or DO-254 (Desirable) - FPGA based development in VHDL (Desirable) - Web based, SQL back end databases (SQL) (Desirable) - Project management expertise including resource estimation, requirements definition and creation of work packages (Statements of Work).
