Mid-Level PHP Developer Software house Canary Wharf PHP / Symfony 2 / Laravel / Zend / MVC My client are a market leader in providing financial learning platforms to the financial institutions. Regardless of size, from global investment banks to boutique hedge funds they probably work with them. They are smaller subsidiary of a much larger organisation so have financial backing for investment in technology but are small enough so there developers can actually dictate how things are done and what techs are used. Completely dedicated to a happy team the Dev manager is adamant that the developers are given the ability to learn, implement and use technologies that they feel are best for the project. This role is aimed at passionate "2nd jobber" who has a good base knowledge and experience in PHP but wants to learn and improve. I have included the tech stack below for clarity - Role Responsibilities - Work within an Agile team to develop, deliver and maintain our e-learning systems with PHP5, our in-house framework, Symfony 2, Silex, and others when chosen. - Support Senior Developers with problem identification, problem solving and information gathering - Report building in SQL - Maintaining a high-quality code base, documenting code as you develop - Supporting our global user-base of clients and staff - Support the business with simple front-end changes to HTML and CSS Role Requirements - Desire to learn and drive to advance career in development - Experience in stages of the development lifecycle, and considerable exposure to Open Source technologies and tools - Understanding of OOP and MVC design pattern - Experience with PHP5+, outside of a framework of +1 year - Excellent debugging skills within PHP, Javascript, HTML and use of Xdebug - Knowledge of HTTP and request verbs - Knowledge of pure HTML, CSS2/3 and DOM manipulation - Experience of working with relational databases, in particular MySQL, of +1 year - Fundamental SQL skills - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - Skilled problem solving Desirable - Awareness of Agile methodologies, both Scrum and Kanban - Experience both writing and consuming web services and APIs - Experience working with source code management systems such as Git, Mercurial or Subversion - Experience with various testing approaches - Experience in varied development methodologies - Exposure to Mobile web, iOS and Android development - Exposure to other e-learning technologies and learning management systems is an advantage - Understanding of continuous integration, continuous deployment, and build tools such as Jenkins - Understanding of risk in each code change and ability to pragmatically decide the value of change - Professional experience of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and related tools.
