Senior Materials Scientist (Chemist/ Engineer) £50k North West ABJ3209 An experienced Senior Materials Scientist/Engineer specifically within the technical area of fibre-related materials science is urgently required for a global organisation. You will have extensive job experience within an R&D environment, lateral thinking and an understanding of the context and implications of the work. As a senior materials scientist you will have a high degree of self-confidence along with advanced supervisory, project management and budgeting skills top lead within state of the art facilities. You will be pivotal in assisting the technical manager within R&D in leading and managing projects within materials engineering for a global organisation. As an experienced materials engineer you will be seeking a technically challenging position innovating with high temperature materials for aerospace and automotive sectors. Key responsibilities - Scan technology (publically available information on materials science and engineering) to identify suitable and novel technical solutions to industrial applications challenges. - Project manage large projects (>£200k): planning, budget control, resourcing, staff supervision, communication, design and control, risk management and stakeholder engagement. - Generate specifications for integrated test programmes or equipment configuration for pilot and production-scale trials, coordinating these trials on site or at overseas manufacturing facilities (for periods up to 10 days) and evaluating outcomes of such trials for material / process feasibility. - Contribute to, and manage, new intellectual property through the patent process. - Present project content and direction to executive level audiences internally and conference standard externally. - Ensure compliance of self and team with environment, health and safety systems, including contributing to audit and improvement programmes. Qualifications / Experience - A engineering degree in chemical, process, materials or mechanical engineering. - Must have glass / ceramic / high temperature fibre / materials experience. - Automotive or aerospace materials experience. - Supervisory leadership skills experience. - Industrial production or research environment, - Medium size project management (>£200k), - Production-scale equipment testing, - Commercially aware. - UK regulatory compliance and technical liaison with international stakeholders. - (Professional accreditation / Chartered status would be advantageous). - Global international links and knowledge of the academic leaders in your field. - Heading up and working on the next generation materials science and processing.
