Principal Software Engineer for Accuity - Part of RBI and the FTSE100 RELX Group Based in Holborn, London WC1V 6EU - Principal Software Engineer - multi-processing, distributed system and advanced algorithm skills - Accuity - Fast-growing $250m financial software business - Salary to £65,000 + bonus and extensive benefits RBI is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer with strong multi-processing, distributed system and advanced algorithm skills to join Accuity, one of our flagship digital brands based from our vibrant central London office. You will join a project team working on a critical component of our widely used financial screening products. Job Purpose: You will be working with a highly capable team of developers and analysts to build a massively scalable, distributed multi-processing architecture, with exposure to algorithms and techniques from machine learning and text processing. The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running, with a proven track record of system delivery, complex design and technical leadership. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities: - Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external technology resources. - Lead the software design effort within architectural boundaries - Work directly with technical leads from client applications. - Serve as acknowledged "go to" person on coding and technical issues. - Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements. - Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity. - Complete complex bug fixes. - Design and work with distributed and multi-processing frameworks. - Design and work with complex data models and flows. - Mentor less senior colleagues on expertise, development methodologies and optimization techniques. Essential Skills Required: - Expert knowledge of complex distributed processing frameworks including but not limited to Akka, Storm or Samza. - Expertise in data modelling, design and manipulation, optimization, best practices, tuning, and leading industry trend knowledge. - Expert knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems. - Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: Scala, Java/J2EE, JavaScript, C/C++, HTML, XML and SQL. - Solid knowledge of architectural principles. - Advanced problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making. - Expertise in test-driven development and maintenance including techniques for applying best practices for overall project benefit. - Proven ability to optimise scalability, throughput and latency of complex systems. Desired Skills: - Expert knowledge of parallel algorithms, string matching and comparison algorithms. - Expert in applicable software development process methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall). - Expertise in industry technology language development trends. - Expertise in normalized/dimensional data modelling principles and their application to complex business needs. - Proven expertise in the use and development of applicable desktop tool sets. - Proven expert in partnering and leading internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Strong knowledge in industry best practices in external resource development. - Ability to partner and lead internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs. - Strong proficiency with data manipulation language including optimization techniques. - Ability to design and work with complex data models. - Strong organization/project planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments, and strong delegation skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and managing projects of various size and complexity. - Exposure and experience to the Apache Foundation suite of tools and solutions - Advance communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior and executive management, customers, etc., including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management, and various departments using assorted communication mediums.
