Our client has all appropriate UK, European and International industry standards to ensure safety, procurement and working practices are adhered to. The dedicated staff are involved in a comprehensive ongoing training programme designed to ensure they are equipped to meet the changing needs of this exciting industry. Overview Due to continued growth and significant contract awards, they now require a Senior Design Engineer / Manager with a background within the Piling / Foundations / Geotechnical / Ground Engineering sectors who is experienced in taking the lead on projects within the sector. Based from either the Midlands office, Y=you will be responsible for ensuring technical design excellence and governance over design pertaining to all work winning and contract technical issues for the company. Additionally you will provide guidance to other members of the team and advise the operational / construction teams in regards to all aspects of design activity. The Role * Managing the design workload to ensure that the needs of the work winning and operational teams are met in a timely manner, in order to ultimately meet client's requirements * Ensure all design work is carried out in accordance with all industry regulations and standards, and in accordance with both the company requirements and client specifications * Manage and advise on designs within piling, foundations, geotechnical, ground engineering and retaining walls etc. * Capture lessons learnt and best practice to allow this to be shared across the business stream and the business as a whole * Provide technical support and attend work winning interviews with current or potential clients * Ensuring that you play an active part in keeping appropriately motivated to deliver high quality design solutions to the business, in line with client expectations and company requirements * To challenge and review all elements of designs, to be proactive and identify potential to reduce risk and improve efficiency wherever possible * To produce high quality material, right first time, by identifying process constraints and improvements which can impact on quality, and regularly update all involved teams to ensure timescales are achievable without compromising quality * Actively promote and demonstrate the Group's core values at all times * Working with the estimating and pre-contract teams to control the build-up and timely submission of the design elements of tenders, bids and proposals * Prepare regular reports on departmental performance to assist in decision making * Co-ordinate and add value at the pre, in-situ and post contract stage of projects * To hold regular progress meetings for presentation to the relevant management * To ensure that any new strategies / initiatives match expectations, and constantly seek to promote these new strategies / initiatives, which may be of benefit for the company and are tailored to meet the relevant company / client needs * Be an integral member of the business to ensure that morale is maintained to the highest level at all times * Ensure that designs adhere to relevant Eurocodes and company policies / business objectives, and the compliance to legal requirements and best practice procedures * Take responsibility for meeting your own business targets, controls and operating costs in achieving investment plans, managing risks effectively and delivering all agreed outputs, within the company ideals * To ensure that any issues on-going as a result of any improvement and / or change initiatives are managed effectively to the requirement of company procedure and remain of prime importance The Person * This is a key role for an individual with the overriding requirement of extensive, up to date technical design knowledge of foundations, piling, geotechnical / ground engineering industry best practice being critical * You will possess experience in managing design works relating to all types of the aforementioned disciplines * You will be both focused and thorough, and possess the gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when action is required, together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary plans are taken * You will possess a good understanding in other areas of the general geotechnical / ground engineering field to enable you to offer truly holistic solutions * You must be proficient in routine and complex design calculations * You will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure * You will be client centric and flexible in your approach, you will possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within invitations to tender and be willing to challenge the norm * You will know 'what good looks like' for the design elements of bid submissions, and have hands on experience of leading the technical aspects of tenders in a timely manner This challenging and exciting opportunity, based in the Midlands, requires an individual with a strong technical design background and demonstrable experience in taking the lead on designs within the ground / geotechnical engineering / piling / foundations / groundworks sectors.
