Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with pupil with Autism in Yr1

Your new role
You will spend your time at the school working on a 1:1 basis with a Yr1 pupil who has severe Autism. They require constant supervision during the day where you will need to remind them to use the toilet and encourage them to eat at break and lunch time. There will be a day plan provided with details of activities and work which you will need to carry out and record progress daily. This will then need to be fed back to the class teacher.
The pupil has very limited to no communication abilities which will require you to build up a good relationship with them in order for you to understand what they are trying to communicate.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to have good experience working on a 1:1 basis with a child with Autism and be able to effectively adapt to quickly changing situations. You need to have a patient and calm personality with tough resilience. You will not be afraid of a challenge and have the motivation and determination to keep trying to succeed and do not easily give up. In addition you will need to be knowledgeable of different interventions which you could use when required relating to Autism.
