SEN Teacher

  • EYFS Class
  • Good School with Outstanding Features
  • London Borough of Hillingdon
  • ASD/SLD Class of 6 pupils
  • Long Term Role to July 2017
  • Full Time Job
  • Immediate Start

Due to an unanticipated growth in numbers in their new intake my client is seeking an additional primary teacher to take on the running of a new EYFS class of 6 pupils with ASD/SLD needs. You will be working in a class with two full time LSAs leading the class for the remainder of the academic year. The school have also indicated that a permanent contract would be on offer before the summer holidays for the right candidate.

The school is an ASD specialist centre for children aged 4-11 who have statements for Special Educational Needs (SEN). The school and its highly regarded staff team believe every child deserves to access to a stimulating, sensory environment that provides each child with the skills and drive to achieve their very best. The school uses PECS and Makaton to aid communication but in this class will be at very low levels of development in terms of communication and social engagement.

Located in a wonderfully equipped and beautifully maintained building with spacious grounds in the Hayes area of Hillingdon, the school is well served by public transport being easily accessible from both train lines and underground lines. The school is well served by public transport into central London and there is sufficient parking on site for those who drive.

Classes are no larger than 8 pupils and there is a deployment of two teaching assistants in every class to ensure that pupils get to access the support and teaching that they need. As a result children are offered more individual attention than could be afforded in a mainstream school.

The school has a very specific ethos in terms of behaviour management and no restraint will be used at any point. Teachers and support staff will talk to students and de-escalate situations through other techniques. For this reason the head is open to appointing either an experienced SEN teacher of someone from a mainstream background who will be open and receptive to their pioneering techniques.

Apply today for immediate interviews subject to DBS clearance and sufficient referencing.
