As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll have a key role to play in the development of our pupils. We cater for students with special educational needs, which means they need more help than most. You’ll work with individuals, groups and classes, helping children learn and develop. Working to boost their self-esteem and encourage acceptance from others, you’ll also support the teacher by monitoring pupils’ work. If your skills are well developed, you could take on more duties, such as helping with planning meetings, working without supervision and liaising with teachers to devise complementary learning activities.

With your previous experience in a Teaching Assistant role, you’ll have up-to-date knowledge of welfare and safety practice within education. You’ll also have the ability to work to specific goals with children, and a gift for building relationships with staff and pupils alike. Emotionally resilient and able to motivate students, you’ll enjoy being part of a team but work well independently too. Please note that you may be expected to attend meetings outside normal school hours.

The Learning Centre is situated a magnificent rural setting, near Durham. The Learning Centre has two children’s homes set in a in its own grounds of approximately ten acres which offers a warm and welcoming living experience for up to 15 pupils, on one integrated site.

All of the pupils attending the Learning Centre will live on site in our 2 new 52 week children’s homes.

For children with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. Through our aspirational homes, schools and ethos, we’ve achieved the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re enhancing life opportunities.
