Salary: UCL Grade 8. The salary range £43,023 - £50,753 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic systems engineer to join a dedicated team providing operational and development support for large-scale data storage and curation services based at UCL’s Bloomsbury campus. The role will involve managing existing operations as well as implementing and integrating new systems and services. You will take on a technical lead role as part of a service team and contribute to multiple projects. The role involves working with staff and researchers from across the university and partner organisations to ensure UCL’s data management systems meet evolving demands.

The Research Data Services team helps researchers to effectively manage and exploit the massive amounts of data being generated by the UCL research community. We work closely with colleagues in the wider Research IT Services department, one of the UK’s most pioneering university research support organizations. RITS staff run a national HPC facility (the largest in the UK University sector), created the first dedicated research software development service in the UK, provide petabyte-scale data storage facilities, and are active members of national and European research projects. The post will offer strong opportunities to further develop and enhance your skills.

You will be expected to draw upon extensive, current, and practical systems development experience in large-scale data storage and/or high-throughput computing environments and development operations. You will be an excellent communicator with proven practical problem-solving ability. You will be responsible for taking technical decisions as part of a team and be prepared to explain and justify these decisions in the context of a strategic view of service delivery.

Closing Date: 16 October 2017

Latest time for the submission of applications: 23.59.

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within UCL at this level.
