Tax Accountant (Temporary - Permanent)

Our client, a Large social housing provider based in Portsmouth, is currently looking to recruit a Tax Accountant to work on a temporary to permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for making sure we stay compliant with all taxation legislation and reporting, help us to plan and structure our activities in the most tax-efficient way within the group structure. The role requires a working knowledge of VAT, Corporation Tax and SDLT with a construction knowledge.

Working Monday - Friday 9 am - 5pm, this role will be paying an hourly rate of £20 - £24 per hour.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all HMRC registrations are kept up to date
  • Ensure that all returns are filed accurately and on time, with full records and traceability.
  • Coordinate our year-end corporation tax computations, accounting entries and disclosures
  • Make sure we understand the tax implications of all our activities and the reliefs available
  • Be the first point of contact for any contact with HMRC, including any audit/inspection
  • Evaluate different legal structures, group structures and contractual arrangements and give advice on the tax implications, taking professional advice where necessary.
  • Continually review our partial exemption method and look for ways to improve VAT recovery.
  • Give advice that helps us balance our commercial objectives with our tax planning.
  • Work particularly closely with the development team and actively look for opportunities to minimise/reduce our liability for VAT and SDLT.
  • Maintain a good relationship with professional and legal advisors, using their advice and support for particularly complex issues.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all tax registrations, returns and correspondence with HMRC, including supporting records and audit trails
  • Ensure that all returns, payments and journal entries are processed in accordance with our financial regulations with appropriate review and sign-off.
  • Maintain control account reconciliations to ensure we accurately account for our tax assets and liabilities
  • Ensure adherence to duties in relation to Equality and Diversity
  • Ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained in all area.

Person Specification:

  • Degree level education
  • CCAB or equivalent professional qualification
  • A CTA or ATT or equivalent tax qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relation to management skills and improving outcomes for customers
  • Experience of delivering organisation-wide projects
  • Experience of tax planning within a complex or changing environment
  • Experience of tax planning within a construction environment
  • Very advanced data handling, numeracy and analytical skills
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely and to produce accurate reports to very short deadlines
  • Proficient with all Microsoft office applications
  • Sharing VIVID's desire to succeed and wanting to play a key role in that growth
  • Commitment to continuous professional development of self and others
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A driving licence with a car available for business use
