You will manage a team of experts working with our business partners to deliver insight and drive profitability through the application of advanced analytical techniques. This team will be highly agile and will focus on delivering production solutions that provide tangible benefits for the organisation. The projects you work on will drive new processes, systems and approaches that bring long-term benefits to the company

Key responsibilities:

  • You will be the technical reference for data science across the organisation and will build and manage advanced analytics capability to deliver business insight
  • You will bring a technical thought leadership, expertise and vision for the next evolution of data analytics to the company
  • Liaise extensively with business partners to gain a deep understanding of our data, processes and opportunities
  • Establish cross functional teams to resolve business problems to deliver tangible benefit through the use of data
  • Manage the development of new data platforms and processes that will deliver analytical insight and ensure these are utilised effectively
  • Define, manage and track the team’s work plans
  • Provide direction and coaching to build the capability of the team
  • Own the performance and maintenance of the company's models in production
  • Use statistical data approaches to uncover patterns in data from which predictive models can be developed
  • Design and build models that substantially improve current business operations
  • Ensure all documentation is up to date and proportionate to business requirements
  • Maintain best-practice standards within the team regarding coding and analytics
  • Any other tasks requested by the Applications Development Manager
  • Professional skills/experience

  • You will have a hands-on and practical approach, responsible for delivering individual projects as well as mentoring and developing the technical skills of a team of data scientistssix MSc and PhD Data Scientists
  • Proven track record of working on own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider team
  • Inspires passion and excitement around shared goals and promotes an environment of achievement
  • Experience of working on big data problems in industry
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work closely with others to deliver results
  • Highly numerate, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with multiple solutions, suppliers and data science disciplines
  • Experienced within creation of statistical models and comfortable working with imperfect data
  • Demonstrable knowledge of modelling (e.g. cluster analysis, decision trees, regression, propensity modelling, Bayesian)
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills are essential as is proficiency within R/SQL/Python/Java/Hive (or similar)
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques and tools
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and presentation skills and possesses the ability explain complex technical issues to a diverse audience
  • A strong track record of designing solutions to customer requirements and budget. Evaluating necessary trade-offs and negotiating these with customers and stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring junior members of staff
  • Experience working and leading a team in an agile environment
  • Ideally you will current role will be Data Analytics Manager, Data Scientist, Data Analyst or Data Science Team Lead.
