Senior Compliance Manager / Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager

A global tech & digital marketing company are looking for a Head of Compliance. The Head of Compliance has sole responsibility for all compliance matters and reports to their General Counsel.

You will initially be expected to be a 'change agent’, who, after assessing their compliance requirements and current processes, will develop a roadmap to build a scalable compliance function around people, process, and technology that will be fit for purpose when we are a billion-dollar company with 1,000+ staff located in multiple locations and operating across the globe.

Responsibilities of Senior Compliance Manager

  • Responsible for hands-on design & build of a World Class compliance function including people, process, and technology;
  • Lead their GDPR planning and compliance programme including early testing of all changes to our business model to ensure we develop strategies to mitigate any revenue impacts;
  • Review, and where appropriate, rebuild their compliance processes, covering data protection and privacy (including the Data Protection Act/GDPR and US TPCA rules), financial services/regulated products (including the FCA Handbook), anti-bribery and corruption, and other areas;
  • Manage their compliance processes and key controls including developing and reporting on a KPI set;
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of key existing & evolving regulation applicable to the company, including (amongst others) UK FCA rules and regulations (e.g. credit broking and insurance products), Advertising Standards, Data Protection and Privacy, and other regulations across their key markets;
  • Develop and maintain network of advisors and subscriptions to keep up to date on changing regulation and ensure timely and commercial support for their growth plans;
  • Regularly review their compliance policies and processes and conduct regular reviews of their compliance activities across the business to identify any vulnerabilities and risks, and develop and implement any remedial plans;
  • Develop staff training programmes for all compliance areas. Lead staff communication and training on compliance at all levels of their business;
  • Conduct risk assessments, including privacy impact assessments;
  • Handling communications with regulators and other government bodies (e.g. FCA); and
  • Develop client/marketing literature around our compliance activities.
  • Experience of Senior Compliance Manager

  • At least five years’ experience in a senior compliance role,
  • Experience in a global business with multiple global offices and exposure to regulation across multiple jurisdictions including the UK, Europe and US,
  • Experience in Data protection and privacy, with a good understanding of the forthcoming GDPR,
  • Some experience of US privacy and marketing compliance areas (e.g. TCPA).
  • Experience in financial services, and ideally some understanding of UK FCA rules and regulations,
  • General experience around other compliance areas such as anti-bribery and corruption,
  • Experience of setting up and/or managing compliance programmes and controls, including use of technology,
  • Experience of implementing policies and leading training programmes,
  • Strong organisational and project management skills,

    My client's legal team is responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters globally, including the UK, Europe, US, and other jurisdictions.

    The team supports all departments, and all levels of the business, with a broad range of commercial, corporate and other work, including commercial contracts, company secretarial, intellectual property, marketing and advertising, data protection and privacy, and financial services/regulated products. Their General Counsel is also responsible for M&A.
